Yard Show promotes the fun side of Greek life – The Sunflower

The RSC has hosted the Cultural Greek Council’s and the National Pan-Hellenic Council’s Yard Show for nearly two decades, but this year, the 18th annual Yard Show took place outside in the Shocker Hall courtyard.

Students and family of the fraternity and sorority members sat around on the steps, benches and on the ground as multiple organizations did their detailed “stroll” around the courtyard.

“It’s just kind of a way of having everyone come together from two councils to pretty much just have fun,” Phi Beta Sigma member Xavier Souvers said.

The event promoted not just the entertaining side of Greek life, but also told the story of where every fraternity and sorority originated.

Family members were encouraged to come out to the event and support their kids from the crowd.

“Obviously being in the event was my favorite part, but besides that, I love seeing all the people that come to support family members and other frats,” Souvers said.

With the event moving outdoors, it caught more attention from people passing by and also made it more fun for the participants.

“I think with it being outside it felt more like a yard show,” Souvers said. “It made it more raw and authentic; we weren’t just in some room, we were actually outside.”
