Trying Cretan food and showing you some of my favorite spots.
01:07 MONOGRAM ROASTER COFFEE SHOP – https://g.co/kgs/yDQs7z
You can find high quality coffee and modern brewing techniques along with traditional delights like Greek Coffee (Elliniko).
02:15 KORMORANOS BAKERY CAFE – https://g.co/kgs/GRx7m6
In the streets of Old Town, you can find a delightful meal of classic Cretan dishes from breakfast through dinner.
04:29 MITRAKI KAITI BAKERY- https://g.co/kgs/zU6KzN
Get here early for the best picks of the day at this traditional dough laboratory. 9am we were told, is the best time to drop by. Closed on Sundays
09:30 BOUGATSA CHANIA – https://g.co/kgs/Ek1mfg
The most iconic pastry in Crete is made in the most expert fashion here. A perfect intersection of tradition and ingredients of the highest quality.
13:49 TERRA CRETA – https://g.co/kgs/FHm9W3
Just a 25 minute drive outside of the Old Town is the largest olive oil producer on Crete. They offer a tasting tour for 10€ before harvest season begins. Check the website for more details. I highly recommend this experience.
19:31 ANCIENT OLIVE TREE OF VOUVES – https://maps.app.goo.gl/R4G2JLLmMPSGqgMY7
Site of one of the oldest olive oil trees in the world, and still produces olives.
20:45 CHARMA BREWERY – https://g.co/kgs/s3aGUe
Beer produced in the mountains of Chania. I highly recommend the Dunkel and having lunch here.
24:44 AVLAKI GORGE TRAIL – https://maps.app.goo.gl/Yjz23dpfQyV2hGkr6
One of the shorter gorge hikes (2.6 mi) so it’s great for a half day of hiking. It takes you along a monastery and hidden cave. At the end you’ll be rewarded with the stunning Katholiko Bay. Bring a bathing suit!
26:02 KOUKOUVAYA – https://g.co/kgs/P5w1Ac
Arguably the best view of Chania. At this restaurant you’ll find yourself among locals with an extensive dessert menu. They are most known for their “Zoumero” Chocolate Cake. I had the Igloo Custard. There’s really no wrong choice here. They also offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner plates.
28:31 TO XANI RESTAURANT – https://g.co/kgs/QyffjS
Nestled among hanging grape vines in the Jewish Quarter of Old Town. This place has an extensive menu of traditional Cretan dishes that you must not leave Crete without trying. Note: they have live music in the evenings, you will surely enjoy. The dishes I had from my two visits were: Cretan Salad, Grilled Pork Steak, Tarama Spread, and the Lamb Kleftiko.
33:50 VENETIAN HARBOR
35:00 TAVERNA ELIÀ – https://g.co/kgs/gouu5w
This restaurant is well worth leaving the Old Town for. Located in the Galatás neighborhood, this was our weekly go-to and ULTIMATE favorite restaurant during our month stay. From beginning to end you feel at home in this casual, yet romantic atmosphere. The chefs are producing perfectly prepared dishes using ingredients picked that morning. You will be sitting under a centuries old olive tree and you be accompanied by cats playing among the bushes. This is really a place where they cook the way the locals like. The dishes I had during our visits: Gigante White Bean Stew, Cretan Salad, Moussaka, Bacaliaros, Skordalia, Stuffed Zucchini Flowers, Pork Steak, Small Fried White Fish.
Open only for dinner.
40:00 RED JANE – https://maps.app.goo.gl/96UH1QLNLRybGKzs6
Housed in a refurbished 1930s manufacturing plant, Red Jane is an extraordinary bakery. This place is truly a gem in Chania, and well worth a visit for perfectly crafted baked goods and carefully curated coffee.

Thanks for watching my Chania food tour! 🇬🇷 I love hearing different perspectives — food is so personal, and everyone’s experience is unique.
Drop your thoughts below: What’s one dish in Crete you think everyone has to try? 🇬🇷 🫒
Your living my dream life ❤❤❤
I wanted to let you know i watched all your Crete videos getting ready for my honeymoon in Chania. My list was perfect. My favorite was the antikristo lamb way up in the mountains!! It was a journey getting up there but I still dream about the lamb ❤ thank you! It really is the best lamb on the island!!
We've just been to Chania and all the food was very mid. Didn't enjoy most restaurants at all 🤮🤮🤮
I love how you describe the food and it's unique flavors. I foodie's delight! Thank so much.
Just back from a family cycling trip in Crete. We enjoyed a number of your recommended spots in Chania and Heraklion. I scored some xinochondros at a Chania farmers’ market, If you think that “kalimera” scores you points with the locals, just try walking up and asking for xinochhondros! Thanks for the tip, and the pronunciation! I’m wondering what you ended up doing with yours.
Ate at Bougatsa Chania 10 days ago ❤ great.
We will be in Chania next week. Saved your video. Thank you for the tour! I’ll check them out!
.
Wow! Can’t remember when I last enjoyed a foodie extravaganza so much! Pure joy.. reminiscent of Nigella in the early days. I’m a professional cook / chef 40 + yrs and know good food when I see it .. your descriptive narrative tells me you know good food too. So wonderful to see someone enjoying and understanding what they are eating. My husband and I have been mesmerised for the last couple of hours watching the places you’ve visited and dishes tried. Now our family have grown up and I can’t wait to go travelling again and sampling all the wonderful dishes the world has to offer. I holidayed in Crete in 1977 so high time to revisit! We have subscribed. Thank you! 🙏
What time of year did you visit? We're going at the end of October! Loved this video….very informative. Thank you for providing links to placed you visited.
My favorite place to eat in Crete (Chania) is Kariatis. Just delicious and not expensive.
Your pronunciations are excellent!
G’day from France. All your reviews seem really great, we will definitely try them out in September. But may I suggest one place near Chania, in the outskirts of a tiny village called Drakona, it’s a restaurant called Ntounias. Fair dinkum have never eaten so well in over 10 trips to Crete, there’s nothing like it anywhere else. Yiassas, Naste kala 🇬🇷😊
now you know how cretins leaving above 80!! plus, it is prove, you don't need a lot of money to live good life!! I grow up over there, and I've been in those restaurants so many times! The friendly atmosphere, and the acceptance and quality of life, it is something you cannot compare!! as Greek American. Thank you for your kind words!! 🫵👏👏👏👏🤝🤝🤝❤️
Had the absolute best food in Crete (and I’ve been twice just to say how much I love this island and their food!) wonderful (and delicious 😋) memories ❤

And watching your videos added some things to do in our list and some restaurants you went to was already in our list but it was good to verify from you and your experience a dded som new ones from your video, especially the bakery!
Nice choices!
Wish I’d watched this before I visited Chania …. Superb video & info 😍👍🏽🇬🇷
Watching this again for the 5th time?! My favorite spot in the whole wide world!! Out of all my travels in 5 continents and about 30 countries… this island has got it all!! The island has amazing landscape and surrounded by beautiful warm waters! The people are nice, the food excellent, …. Old Town was absolutely charming… and best of all you can dine & wine like kings & queens!! I lived in Manhattan for over a decade and settled down in West Los Angeles …. everything so expensive. But in Chania, you can have your cake and eat it, too! Daily if you’d like 😊♥️
This video was perfection 👌🏾
Thanks for the video! Do you speak Greek?
Listen…iam from crete…
Our breakfast is coffee and a cigarette….
I love my island and i love when others discover it.❤❤❤❤
One of the best vlogs I've watched, and I've watched alot! You have a great personality! I'm hoping to visit Chania sometime in September '25 ❤
Koboloi spotted in the background
Adorable video .. well done!
Really enjoyed this! Chania is my favorite town in Crete and the food is amazing there and all over the island. Loved to see how much you enjoyed this area of the world — it holds a very special place in my heart. It makes me so happy to see others enjoying the local food and culture of Crete! And extra points for your pronunciation of Greek. As I am sure you know by now, being able to speak even a little Greek endears you to the locals. 🙂
You have been INSTRUMENTAL in helping me plan my honeymoon to Crete. Thank you thank you!♥
I love Greece, especially the islands. Our partnership owned a number of restaurants and nightclubs there. Unfortunately as much as I love Greek food, the country has the most limited national cuisine. Italy, France and Spain have far more choices. Even Turkey next door has more diversity. Fortunately Crete has the best agricultural of the country and therefore offers so many more choices.
Wondering where you guys stayed during your visits la or if anything specific caught your eye?!
Thank you for enjoying this video! If you want more info on the places visited, I've included each restaurants link in the description. 🤗
