Historic Greek properties spanning centuries are entering the real-estate market, offering buyers opportunities to own homes, estates and commercial buildings steeped in architectural and cultural history, according to an article by Stavros Grimanis in en.protothema.gr
The listings range from medieval fortresses to neoclassical mansions and restored traditional guesthouses, with prices stretching from several hundred thousand euros to €8 million. They also span Athens, Thessaloniki, Corfu, Rhodes, the Peloponnese, Mani and Epirus.
Among the standout properties is Villa Perivoli in Chios, a 15th-century Genoese residence covering 248 sq. m. It includes three bedrooms, an office and a terrace, plus a guesthouse, pool and orange grove across 14,200 sq. m. The asking price is €1.8 million.
In Ano Syros, a historic 220 sq. m. fortress-style home with four bedrooms is listed at €1.7 million. Corfu features several major offerings, including the 1,750 sq. m. Antico Rosso estate, built on the remains of a medieval monastery and priced at €8 million.
Athens also has notable options. A five-story 1930 property near the National Archaeological Museum, totaling 2,282 sq. m., is offered for €4 million and requires extensive restoration. A listed residence in Plaka dating to 1911 is priced at €1.75 million.
In Thessaloniki, a fully renovated 1896 neoclassical building in Agia Triada spans 640 sq. m. and is priced at €2.9 million.
Elsewhere, historic properties include a 19th-century estate in the Peloponnese, Venetian-era buildings in Corfu, traditional guesthouses in Zagori and a restored stone complex in Mani.
Real-estate specialists stress that buyers should investigate preservation rules, renovation requirements and legal restrictions before purchasing listed properties. Historic character can bring prestige and obligations.
