ATHENS – Admission to many Greek public museums, monuments, and archaeological sites were free of charge throughout the weekend of September 26-27 in Greece, in honor of European Heritage Days (EHD), in which the Greek Ministry of Culture is participating for the 30th consecutive year.
Given the EHD 2026 theme – Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reimagine – planned events during the celebrations focused on contemporary threats to monuments from the climate crisis, wear and tear, and constantly changing environmental conditions.
They also highlighted the resilience and enduring value of cultural heritage, proposing ways to conserve and protect it. The focus was especially on oral traditions, the intergenerational transfer of knowledge, and the role of cultural expression in times of crisis, especially the protection of linguistic diversity and preserving local customs.
Most events involved the physical presence of the public, while there were also digital activities, both in real time and not, which were available of the websites and social media of the organizing bodies, in addition to the official EHDays Facebook and Instagram pages: https://www.facebook.com/EHDaysGR
