Just as the fire handed over to humans by Prometheus in Greek mythology led to the birth of human civilization, the explosive evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) gave us another “prometheus moment.” However, just as fire can be a disaster that burns everything at the same time as a driving force for abundance and development, AI, the “fire of the 21st century,” also has two faces: infinite possibilities and uncontrollable risks.

With this awareness of the problem, the 27th World Knowledge Forum, which opens on the 8th, seeks a way for mankind to move forward under the theme of “The Moment of Prometheus: Design a World of Coexistence Intelligence.”

The changes that AI will bring are beyond imagination. Technological evolution and productivity innovation are dramatically changing the overall game of industries such as manufacturing, finance, and medical care. Furthermore, AI has emerged as a key axis that determines national security, defense, and geopolitical hegemony competition. In particular, Korea has a very special position in the AI era. “Korea is one of the world’s most powerful manufacturing bases in the world,” said world-renowned AI master Seo Bassun, who founded Google X, when he arrived in Korea to attend the forum. “We have a ‘special opportunity’ to build a higher level of AI innovation using industrial, automation capabilities and strengths in the home appliance and automobile sectors.” In addition, many scholars who attended the forum, including “Factory is a Weapon and Shield” (former White House Deputy Director Harry Wingo), appreciate Korea’s potential in the AI era. Geopolitically, South Korea is in the middle of a competition for global security hegemony as well as technology hegemony. Based on this potential and tension, it is necessary to secure AI super gaps in industry and defense in general, while preparing coexistence strategies that will reduce social conflicts and lead to integration.

Prometheus had to face a harrowing punishment of prying the liver in exchange for handing fire to humans. If humanity is helplessly swayed by the huge technological runaway of AI, the price could be more brutal than mythical punishment. Therefore, the topic of Co-Intelligence, in which humans and AI move together, is timely.
