Authorities on the Greek islands have arrested a total 16 bar and club managers over the weekend for playing music above the maximum legal limit, police said Monday.
The southeastern Aegean Sea resort island of Rhodes topped the list with five people detained, while another four were taken into custody on the Ionian Sea island of Zakynthos, at the other end of Greece.
Arrests were also made on Lefkada, also in the Ionian, and the Aegean islands of Mykonos, Syros, Tinos and Naxos in the Cyclades chain, as well as Kos in the southeastern Dodecanese group of islands.
A police statement said the crackdown was “part of regular inspections to ensure the quality of life and the maintaining of a steady and secure environment for the public.” It promised to persist with such checks throughout the summer tourist season.
