Spain is guest of honour at this year’s Nicosia Book Fest, Limassol Art Walks opens a string of new exhibitions across the city, and soprano Aida Garifullina gives her first concerts in Cyprus at Kourion. Here is what’s on this weekend.

FESTIVALS

Nicosia, Acropolis Park. October 9-11. Official opening ceremony: Friday, October 9, 7pm. This year’s Nicosia Book Fest brings together more than 100 stands, more than 200 authors and over 100 events. Spain is the guest of honour, and the opening draws on its literary tradition, with references to Miguel de Cervantes and Federico García Lorca. Nicosia, Building 53 – Centre for Experimental Arts, October 9-10, 8pm. The Breach Festival returns for its fifth edition with six musical encounters in free improvisation, experimental music and contemporary sound art. VISUAL ARTS

Nicosia, Byzantine Museum (22430008). Four significant relics from the History Museum of Armenia in Yerevan come to Nicosia for the temporary exhibition ‘Faith and Identity – Relics from the History Museum of Armenia’, presented by the Byzantine Museum of the Archbishop Makarios III Foundation in cooperation with the Armenian museum. Deputy Minister of Culture Klea Hadjistephanou Papaellina will open the exhibition at 7pm. Until April 9, 2027.

Nicosia, Isnotgallery contemporary (99569498). Artist Dimitris Neocleous presents his new work ‘The Garden of Alnwick’ in an exhibition that moves between the introversion of drawing and the extroversion of colour. Opening: 7.30pm. Until October 31.

Limassol, Pylon Art & Culture (95 950857). Opening: October 9, 5-9pm, as part of Limassol Art Walks. Theopisti Stylianou-Lambert presents her latest artistic research as part of curator Alessandro Katsola’s wider project ‘An Archaeological Museum at the Threshold’. The exhibition ‘Tracing Angel’s Men’ revisits a study carried out in Cyprus in 1949 and looks beyond the archives and anthropometric data for the people and family stories left behind them. Limassol, Morfi (25378733). The retrospective ‘Whispers of Heritage – The Art of John Corbidge’ includes a rare selection of the artist’s work taken directly from the private collection of his daughter, Melissa Corbidge. Part of Limassol Art Walks 2026. Opening: 7pm. Until October 15. morfi.org

Limassol, eins gallery (99522977). Alexandros Pissourios presents his first solo exhibition in Cyprus, ‘On Second Thoughts’, as part of Limassol Art Walks 2026. Opening: 5pm. Until December 15.

Limassol, Aleph, 80 Athinon Street. Art Seen presents Shaheer Zazai’s exhibition ‘A Petal for a Petal’ as part of Limassol Art Walks 2026. Starting from his personal connection to Afghan carpets, Zazai explores how textiles and digital technologies work as systems for recording and passing on knowledge. Opening: 5pm. Limassol, Velychko Gallery (96855580). Kyriaki Costa presents her solo exhibition ‘MURMUR kairos’, a new body of work combining sculpture, embroidery and painting that focuses on the ‘whispers’ warning of a world at a critical point. Limassol, NeMe. The group exhibition ‘Power Lines’ examines the impact of renewable energy on landscapes, communities and ways of life, raising difficult questions about the real cost of the ‘green’ transition. Nicosia, Gloria (22762605). From October 9, Marion Paschali presents her new work ‘In the Garden of a Universe’ at Gloria Gallery, an exhibition that freely links philosophical thought with science. Opening: 7.30pm. Until October 23.

Nicosia, Gallery K (22 341122). Kyprianos Dimosthenous’s painting exhibition ‘Beyond Olympus’ includes works drawing on Greek mythology, human psychology and collective memory. Opening: 5-9pm. Until October 24.

Nicosia, Marginalia Gallery (99657080). Memories of places, travels, wanderings and images of nature come together in Minas Kampitakis’s new painting exhibition, ‘Wanderings’. Opening: Friday, October 9, 7.30pm. Until October 31 (Tuesday-Friday 10am-1pm and 5-8pm, Saturday 10.30am-1pm).

Limassol, Xydadiko, October 9-11. Elena Agathocleous’s ‘O Sinemas’ (The Cinema) is an act of farewell and an attempt to let the story of a place be heard again through different voices. The work is presented as part of the fifth Limassol Art Walks. Friday 5-9pm, Saturday and Sunday 11am-6pm.

MUSIC

Limassol, Ancient Theatre of Kourion, Friday, October 9, and Saturday, October 10, 8pm (gates open 7pm). Soprano Aida Garifullina comes to Cyprus for the first time for two concerts with the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra, conducted by the orchestra’s artistic director, Myron Michailidis. The programme includes the ‘Habanera’ from Bizet’s ‘Carmen’, ‘Juliet’s Waltz’ from Gounod’s ‘Faust’, ‘O soave fanciulla’ from Puccini’s ‘La bohème’, Lauretta’s aria from ‘Gianni Schicchi’, Johann Strauss’s ‘Voices of Spring’ waltz, arias from Tchaikovsky’s ‘Eugene Onegin’ and ‘Iolanta’, and the ‘Brindisi’ from Verdi’s ‘La traviata’, along with other operatic works. Limassol, Pattichion Municipal Theatre, Friday, October 9, 8.30pm. George Dalaras brings ‘Rebetiko’ to Cyprus, a music show dedicated to one of the most important chapters of Greek music. He is joined by a select group of musicians and singers Aspasia Stratigou, Mariana Katsimicha and Vasilis Korakakis, in a programme that seeks to bring out the style and distinctive sound of rebetiko.
