Imanol Alguacil is set to kick off his managerial tenure with Olympiacos this evening against OFI Crete in the Super League Greece at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.
Jose Luis Mendilibar was dismissed as the club’s head coach following a 3-2 victory over Volos in the Greek Cup last week. New signing Armando Gonzalez was given a start as the sole striker upfront, replacing the injured Ayoub El Kaabi. It remains to be seen whether Alguacil provides the Mexican forward another chance to shine against OFI, as the Basque manager is not expected to make serious changes to Mendilibar’s setup.

Roman Yaremchuk was back on the squad list in the previous outing, and he is set to get some minutes today. Clayton was also activated after El Kaabi’s long-term injury. However, Olympiacos are on the lookout for another striker.
Goalkeeper Stefan Ortega is set to start while he was replaced by Balsa Popovic as Mendilibar’s man between the sticks in the Greek Cup fixture. Former Aston Villa man Leon Bailey could get a start under Alguacil, as winger Joel Roca stays out with a dislocated shoulder.
Following the completion of this match, the Red and Whites will head for their Europa League opener against Polish top-flight side Jagiellonia Bialystok. Club president Evangelos Marinakis has set the target for the team to reach the final of the tournament and possibly win their second piece of European silverware after the 2024 UEFA Europa Conference League under Mendilibar.
