Amathusia Festival returns to Ancient Agora of Amathus on September 18 – Cyprus Inform


The 29th Amathusia Festival will present classical, Greek and Cypriot music at the Ancient Agora of Amathus, with free entry by ticket.

Limassol, Cyprus. Amathus Municipality will stage the 29th Amathusia Festival at the Ancient Agora of Amathus on September 18, featuring Cyprus-based and international performers.

The one-evening event, beginning at 8.30pm, will offer free admission, although tickets are required because seating is limited.


Music programme

This year’s festival is focused mainly on classical music and will also include modern Greek and Cypriot instrumental works arranged for violin and piano.

The programme includes arias from Verdi’s Rigoletto and La Traviata, Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers, Puccini’s La Bohème, Tosca, Gianni Schicchi and Manon Lescaut, Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana, and Lehár’s Das Land des Lächelns.

Piano solos by Chopin and Limassol composer David Pentecost will be performed. The piano duet programme will include music by Piazzolla, while violin and piano performances will feature works by Theodorakis and Hadjidakis, as well as a traditional Cypriot piece.

Performers

The music is organised by Limassol pianist Tatiana Stupak, who will accompany Serbian violinist Olivera Rialas, a Limassol resident.

Soprano Jasmina Trumbetas and tenor Adriano Gentili, invited from Serbia and Italy, respectively, will perform with Stupak on piano. Italian piano duettists Emilia Pinto and Massimiliano Chiapinelli are also scheduled to appear.

Festival background and tickets

For nearly three decades, the Amathusia Festival has presented theatre, dance, poetry and music productions by artists from Cyprus and abroad, covering Byzantine, ancient Greek and modern popular Greek repertoire.
