Melbourne-based musician Pavlos Andronikos has released a new mini-album bringing together three poems by Greek poets from Melbourne, transformed into songs through music and performance.
The mini-album features musical settings of three poems:
“The Young” (Τα Νιάτα) by Nikos Nomiko
“Eros” (Ο Έρωτας) by Michael Pais
“Celebration (When We Kiss)” by Pavlos Andronikos
The project celebrates the connection between Greek poetry and music while highlighting the creative work of three Melbourne-based writers and artists.
Andronikos describes Michael Pais and Nikos Nomikos as two of Melbourne’s most talented Greek poets, while adding, with characteristic humour, that he is “not bad either”.
The album began to take shape when Nomikos approached Andronikos with lyrics he had written many years earlier for Costas Tsicaderis. To Nomikos’ knowledge, the lyrics had never been used, and he invited Andronikos to try setting them to music.
The resulting song inspired a further collaboration. When Pais heard Andronikos’ work, he recalled a poem of his own that he believed could make a good song. That poem subsequently became another musical piece on the mini-album.
The final track, “Celebration (When We Kiss)”, is Andronikos’ own contribution. The song is based on a poem he wrote several years ago and uses surreal imagery to explore romantic love.
The song also carries a personal story. Andronikos notes that the recording of “Celebration”received the approval of its muse, and the mini-album was released on her birthday, adding a special and symbolic dimension to the project.
The album cover was designed and illustrated by Nikos Nomikos, extending the collaboration beyond poetry and music into the visual presentation of the release.
The mini-album is distributed internationally through LANDR and is available across major music streaming platforms, including Spotify and YouTube.
Listeners are invited to discover the three songs and experience the meeting point between Greek poetry, contemporary music and Melbourne’s Greek creative community.
