First Olympic Stadium to host the international Olympics
Hey Solo Friends,
Welcome to Beautiful Athens, Greece. Today we are going to explore the he Panathenaic Stadium in Athens which is the first international Olympic stadium. The Panathenaic Stadium or Kallimarmaro is a multi-purpose stadium in Athens, Greece. One of the main historic attractions of Athens, it is the only stadium in the world built entirely of marble. The stadium was excavated in 1869 and hosted the Zappas Olympics in 1870 and 1875. After being refurbished, it hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the first modern Olympics in 1896 and was the venue for 4 of the 9 contested sports. It was used for various purposes in the 20th century and was once again used as an Olympic venue in 2004. It is the finishing point for the annual Athens Classic Marathon. It is also the last venue in Greece from where the Olympic flame handover ceremony to the host nation takes place.
The stadium held the opening and closing ceremonies of the 1896 Olympics On 6 April (25 March according to the Julian calendar then in use in Greece), the games of the First Olympiad were officially opened; it was Easter Monday for both the Western and Eastern Christian Churches and the anniversary of Greece’s independence. The stadium was filled with an estimated 80,000 spectators, including King George I of Greece, his wife Olga, and their sons. Most of the competing athletes were aligned on the infield, grouped by nation. After a speech by the president of the organizing committee, Crown Prince Constantine, his father officially opened the games. The stadium also served as the venue for Athletics, Gymnastics, Weightlifting and Wrestling.

A lament as an Iraqi: I am the Iraqi who lived between the jaws of shock. I witnessed with my own eyes how glory and beauty turned to ashes, and how stadiums that once resounded with sounds of joy became mere deserted arenas inhabited by despair in 2026. The departure of the stars and๐ฌ๐ท๐ฅน๐ฎ๐ถ๐๐ข๐ข
2026 its now 12 euros to enter
Ich habe das Video zur Vorbereitung meiner eigenen Reise nach Athen geschaut. Es hat mir geholfen zu entscheiden, was ich mir anschauen werde. Dieses Stadion ist definitiv dabei. Schรถn gemacht!
Incorectly titled as 'oldest' Olympic stadium. They were only 'Panathenaic games' at the stadium you show – until 1898. The oldest 'Olympic' stadium predates this by over 200 years, opening (and still exists) in 776 BCE in Olympia, Greece.
I'm very obsessed with ancient history. I hate to see that they modernized the stadium. What shame and disgrace to modern humans?

Great to watch, but now youโre two thirds of the way to having 68,000 people watching (probs already there, but going off sub count). ๐ Mubarak ho solo!
This the most hilarious explanation of the Olympics โthey were just Greek just men all nakedโ ๐ I stopped there to be honest
The stadium was built in 566 BC not in 1896 AD. It would be more useful for you and the video viewers if you took the audio guide headphones.
Amrit stadium in Syria ๐ธ๐พ is much more ancient
