The Great Inka Road at the National Archaeological Museum

On the occasion of the 205th Anniversary of Peru’s National Independence anniversary, the Embassy of Peru in Greece organizes an exhibition at Hellenic National Archaeological Museum.

The exhibition presents the history of the Inka Empire and its masterpiece: the stone roads network “Qhapaq Nan”. These paths, more than thirty thousand kilometers long, went from the Amazon rainforest to the Pacific coast, crossing deserts and high mountains. They connected valleys that today belong to six different countries

“The first European who he stepped onto that ancient road was Petros de Candia. He was a Greek officer of Francisco Pizarro, born in the city of Candia on the island of Crete — what we now call Heraklion”, said Ambassador Arturo Arciniega, during the inauguration ceremony.

“I am very grateful to the National Archaeological Museum of Greece for welcoming this project with so much enthusiasm. Greece, with its own great history, understands better than anyone that ancient roads are not just made of stone. They are made of human will, vision, and the simple desire to connect with others.”

The exhibition will run until September 30, 2026 at the Hellenic National Archaeological Museum
