Well, I didn't think we could get worse pronunciation than Americans and 'gy-roh', but this was worse. The pronunciation here made me want to do damage. The same words pronounced differently throughout. You can get any of these dishes in Cyprus and Greece and, probably, the UK, the USA, Australia, South Africa, etc

Skordalia (I’ll forgive the pronunciation) is easily one of my favorites! It brings back memories of childhood, it goes great with so many dishes, and because it has SO MUCH GARLIC in it . . . friends have to have some too just out of self preservation.
I made some just a few weeks ago, so it was never forgotten.
Seeing the ship ,s name SKAUGUM, brought back my trip to Australia in 1955 as a 6year old. I remember the whole journey vividly 😊

Well done on a great vid and thanks for taking the time to put it together. These meals can still be found in family homes in both Greece and Melbourne, but not many would be found in Melbourne based Greek restaurants.
Re: pronunciation, I think we should implement some kind of bar/rule. If you can pronounce 25 Vietnamese, Chinese or Japanese (or any other country's meals) as perfectly as someone who has grown up with those languages around them every day, then you can go nuts on being critical of the pronunciation of a non-Greek taking the time to research and have a genuine go at spreading the word of our food and culture.

Seriously dude I appreciate you acknowledging our Greek meals, but every single one of those meals is still being cooked today in Greek kitchens. They are a part of us our heritage.

It was the same when my parents migrated to British Columbia in the early 50’s. We were lucky to find feta or patsa. It seems Australian migrants were had more connections to Greece

My parents migrated to Australia in 1952 I was born two years later, this is the food we grew up with, I’m 70 now and still eat the delicious food, sadly the only place you can’t find food like this is in the Greek restaurants around Australia. Thank you for bringing back beautiful memories of my family seating down at dinner and eating all together, it creates such a powerful positive bond. Yiasas

I have a feeling the audio is AI. The pronunciation is atrocious. My husband is Greek and I'm not. Even I know how to pronounce these dishes. I highly doubt most of these recipes have disappeared in Australia because they haven't disappeared here in the states.

As a child of the late 50s I welcome & appreciate the intention of this video, that said, the content, errors and inaccuracies are too many to just gloss over. Amongst others….the pronunciation is woefull (AI?); Continually refering to Carlton, Brunswick, Abbotsford as if centre's of Greek residence? Heard of South Melb, Port Melb or Yarraville? Travelling from the inner city to Ford Geelong for work? Why when GM, Dunlop, Kraft, Tom Piper etc etc were in Port Melb? Going to Lonsdale St for delis? What the markets were closed? Evangelismos ( the church still on Victoria Pde) is a small red brick not the gaudy building shown. As for "cathedral" not heard of Agios Efstathios (the archediocese hq)? How many Greek mothers used the American cookbook shown? Chicken during lent when people fast meat? No fasolada, giouvetsi, rizogalo but culturally diverse baklava? This smacks of a quick AI "study" not researched, poor effort, 4/10.
The best version of gemista is the one that also includes some or all of the following: stuffed potatoes, onions, zucchini flowers, and vine leaves. I can't imagine anyone on this planet saying 'no' to such a gastronomic masterpiece.

I made it to number 4 and I can't take it anymore. I'm not even Greek and I'm pissed. Trahana originates from Iran and in every Greek, Turkish or Albanian household you might find it.
Lagana is still used on the first Monday of fasting (clean Monday – καθαρά Δευτέρα).
Patsa you can find everywhere.
Chirtopita also you can find in almost every authentic Greek restaurant…..

Moussaka: NOPE. It was invented by a hot-shot Athenian chef in the 1920s, and most rural Greeks would not have known it in the 1950s. Migrants to Australia were rural, and would not have known moussaka until the 1970s. And it's not a "traditional dish".
Avglolemono is just a lemon sauce or lemon soup, with egg as a thickening base. It's not a single dish.
Keftedes just means "meatballs". It's not a single dish. They can be fried like you showed, or cooked in tomato sauce.
Chickpeas: super regional. Most Greeks would not have regularly eaten it.
Traxana, spanakopita, giouvarliakia, gemista, giovarlakia, still eaten.
Missing: of course, no mention of seafood. And of course, no mention of pasta (huge part of Greek cuisine), because Anglos decided that pasta is only Italian.
Wasn’t anyone available to teach the narrator how to pronounce the dishes?

1. It's Traha-nAs – the last A is loud, not Tra-hA-nas.
2. Pats-As. the same applies here. It is not just a matter of cost. It is made in various locations in Greece not just for cost-dsaving
