Molly-Mae Hague reveals the REAL meaning behind her son’s name

Molly-Mae Hague has revealed the REAL meaning behind her son’s name, after welcoming her second child with Tommy Fury.

The former Love Island finalists welcomed their baby son Midas earlier this month, joining their three-year-old daughter Bambi.

Speaking in her first YouTube vlog since becoming a mother-of-two, Molly-Mae admitted that she is in “disbelief” that she has welcomed a son, after previously predicting that she would be a mother to two girls.

“I am ready to stop at two, so the fact that we were blessed with a boy and a son, we couldn’t be luckier and I couldn’t be happier. I just can’t process that we have a boy,” she gushed.

In her video, Molly-Mae confirmed that her son’s full name is Midas Thomas Fury, weighing 7 pounds and 16 ounces.

“We’ve had this name for a boy for quite a few years,” Molly-Mae confirmed.

The origin of the name is from Greek mythology, which refers to King Midas, who had a wish for everything he touched to turn to gold.

It also refers to wealth, with the term “Midas touch” referring to the power to transform anything into gold, wealth, or success.

However, in her video, Molly-Mae shared that she “really loved” the phrase, but that it did not necessarily inspire her son’s moniker.

“I do think it’s so special, but equally, he’s not necessarily named after the Greek king. I saw a few comments being like, ‘Midas was a fool in Greek mythology, this is so silly that she’s called her son this,’ but in the same way that Bambi is not necessarily named after the Disney character, Midas is not named after the Greek king.

“I actually found the name from watching a film called Real’s Steel. It’s the most random film, it’s like Transformers,” she teased, referring to the 2011 sci-fi film starring Hugh Jackman.

“One of the robots in the film was called Midas. This was years ago, and I heard the name and I thought, ‘That’s a really cool, strong name. I’ve never heard of that before.’ I just thought, ‘Midas Fury, what a strong name.’

“I mentioned it to Tommy and he just absolutely fell in love with it,” Molly-Mae added.

The couple announced the name of their son last week.

At his boxing fight against Eddie Hall in Manchester last Saturday night, proud dad Tommy donned a personalised jacket with his newborn’s name stitched on.

The moniker ‘Midas’ could be spotted in gold lettering with a crown symbol, in a sweet gesture to reveal their son’s name.

Prior to her son’s birth, Molly-Mae teased that fans could be “disappointed” by the name choice.

“Final bets – do we think I’m having a girl or a boy? And what do we think we’re calling it? I think people are going to be a bit disappointed,” Molly-Mae confessed.

“Upon reflection, I don’t actually think it’s that crazy, but I know people are going to pronounce it wrong.

“When I’ve mentioned the name to a few people, I’ve spelled it out because I had this complex about people saying it wrong. I’ve spelled it out and then a few of my friends have said it completely wrong and absolutely not how you pronounce it.

“But then also, I think if you know this word or you know the name, you’d pronounce it how it is. For me, I just see it as exactly what it is. Anyway, it’s definitely not as different as Bambi, I wouldn’t say, but I’ve only ever heard one other child be called it,” she explained.

“It’s not someone in the public eye, it’s literally just someone that I’m connected to through a friend – someone they know, their child is called it.

“I just think it sounds so good with the surname Fury. That’s another reason why I love it so much. It just feels right, it feels good,” Molly-Mae gushed further.
