he Greek contribution will be filmed on the Pnyx hill, against the backdrop of the Attic sky and the Acropolis of Athens. Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, under the musical direction of Constantinos Carydis and featuring distinguished pianist Lukas Sternath as soloist, will perform Piano Concerto No. 5 by Ludwig van Beethoven, the celebrated “Emperor” Concerto.
Constantinos Carydis is regarded as one of the most important Greek conductors of his generation, with a distinguished international career, while Lukas Sternath rose to prominence through the Rising Stars programme of European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO), with the support of the Musikverein and the Konzerthaus Vienna. He is already well known to Greek audiences following last year’s appearance at the Megaron the Athens Concert Hall in a recital and educational programme for children.
The Greek contribution will be broadcast by ARTE, the Franco-German channel that broadcasts via satellite worldwide, during prime time, offering Athens and the Greek cultural landscape exceptionally significant international exposure. The image of the city, linked with one of the masterpieces of the symphonic repertoire, will travel across Europe as part of a rare cultural event of great artistic and symbolic importance.
The filming of the Greek contribution is taking place within the framework of an international television production for ARTE, with particularly high technical and artistic standards, and under specialised directing and recording conditions that ensure the quality of both the broadcast and the cinematic capture of the work within the historic setting of the Pnyx.
The people of Athens will have the opportunity to take part in this major European musical celebration at the Megaron Garden, where the official public screening of EUROPIANO will take place. From 17:30 until 23:00, all concerts from the participating European cities will be broadcast live on a large screen, offering a unique experience of a continuous musical journey across Europe.
