The Greek-Australian Cultural League is preparing to present the 16th annual Antipodean Palette 2026, an exhibition that has become one of Melbourne’s most significant celebrations of Greek Australian art, culture and community.
The exhibition will officially open on Saturday, 4 July at 2pm at the Malvern Artists’ Society Gallery, bringing together artists, musicians, writers and members of the Greek Australian community in a showcase of creativity and cultural heritage.
Now entering its 16th year, Antipodean Palette continues to highlight the evolving story of Greek Australian culture, providing a platform for both established and emerging artists to explore themes of identity, migration, memory, cultural heritage and belonging through their work.
At a time when cultural traditions can risk fading or being forgotten, initiatives such as Antipodean Palette play an important role in preserving and renewing Greek cultural heritage in Australia. The exhibition also helps bridge generations, offering younger Greek Australians an opportunity to connect with their roots while sharing them with the broader Australian community.

A special feature of this year’s opening program will be a performance by the Byzantine Music Choir Eikon, which will present hymns from the Byzantine tradition, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience one of the world’s oldest living musical traditions.
Under the direction of Ioanna Nikoloulea, the ensemble, comprising Nikoloulea, Sava Djukic and Kallirroi Kyrkopoulou, will perform sacred hymns that have been passed down through generations for centuries.
The combination of Byzantine music and contemporary visual arts reflects the breadth and depth of Greek cultural expression. Together, these art forms serve as living links between past and present, reminding audiences that culture is not merely an inheritance but a living legacy that must be nurtured, shared and preserved.
The Greek-Australian Cultural League remains committed to promoting education, dialogue and artistic excellence within the community. Through initiatives such as Antipodean Palette, it ensures that the voices, stories and traditions of Greek Australians continue to be heard and inspire future generations.
*Antipodean Palette 2026 will run from 3–12 July at the Malvern Artists’ Society Gallery, located at 1297–1299 High Street, Malvern.
