Giorgos Mazonakis’ music has surged across streaming platforms and radio following his death on Wednesday, 9 September.
The Greek singer holds the first nine positions on Spotify’s official Top 50 chart in Greece, while appearing on 28 of its 50 tracks. “Ores Mikres” leads the chart after gaining more than 2.5 million streams within days, followed by “Oinopnevma Ftheno” and “Aniko se Mena”.
According to IFPI Greece, streams of Mazonakis’ music increased sevenfold within the first 24 hours of his death, while his monthly Spotify audience nearly doubled to more than 1.4 million listeners.
His radio airplay also rose sharply, increasing by 253 per cent on 10 September and by 148 per cent during the following week.
Older tracks also returned to the airwaves, with “Thelo na Yiriso sta Palia” recording the largest increase at 798 per cent.
Internationally, Mazonakis reached number 40 on Kworb’s Global Digital Artist Ranking.
