Today I’m in St Kilda, Melbourne, reviewing Beachcomber Cafe — a beachfront restaurant serving up classic Greek dishes with stunning ocean views… and some serious Melbourne wind!
Melbourne is home to one of the largest Greek communities outside Greece, so expectations were high. I started with a traditional trio of Greek dips and warm pita bread, plus saganaki — that sizzling, golden Greek cheese that everyone loves.
For the main course, I went for souvlaki, keeping things authentic and simple. And for dessert? A sharp lemon meringue pie and a colourful “Cookie Monster” creation that definitely leaned into Melbourne’s Instagram dessert culture.
Was it worth braving the wind? Does Greek food work by the beach in Australia? And is this one of the best spots in St Kilda?
Let’s find out.

Bit pricey
I live in Melbourne. The food culture here is quite something. Beachcomber is consistent excellent food. The selection of cuisine and quality here is next level. Beachcomber is on the expensive side, but plenty of way cheaper options without the expensive location. Greeks heritage is the highest per capita in the World outside Greece..
Good honest review Joe. It made me a bit hungry though 😅 😊
You just went to the tourist trap. There's about ten places just in St. Kilda itself ( which is a small place), better than that.
Sounds like the best time for Sovlaki
Didn't expect to see you pop up in my city!
If yoy want more a a street style of souvlaki hit up a fish n chip shop! It may sound weird to a Pom, but the greeks used to run most of the fish n chip shops here.
Pretty much every fish n chip shop will have them on the menu!
Joe, this is an unusual approach I haven't seen before from a successful Youtuber: a single channel containing two very different types of content which I'd have thought is likely to appeal to two different audiences. I've noticed you've used a second channel for the food content in the past. I'm curious, what drove the decision to combine the channels, and isn't there a danger that a sizeable portion of potential subscribers from both audiences are driven off, and you're just left with the intersection of that particular Venn diagram?
Relax, it's okay to take your time. It looks delicious. 🙂
We are in fact the third largest Greek city on earth!
Ah! Greek food in Melbourne! I lived in Melbourne (various suburbs) during my formative years, and remember well the ex-pat Mediterranean vibe that you can find there, if you know where to look. Greek, South Italian, others. Back in England now.
Melbourne! I loved it there! you should have gone Turkish. I spent a month there on hols can't beat the Turkish food 🤣. Saying that I do prefer the Greeks in Melbourne than my experience in Athens good community spirit.
Hope you enjoyed your stay in Melbourne Australia. 🇭🇲🇬🇧😎
Looked good!
For me, Michelin star food is a glob of something in the middle of a 50cm diameter plate for 75£. I prefer good quantity any day over that.
Joe as a Greek, wish you a καλή όρεξη φίλε!! Σαγανάκι και σουβλάκι δεν παίζεται !! Greetings from Greece !!
Those sweet potatoes look delicious 😋. Thanks for another entertaining vlog! Needless to say I’m hungry now 😅
Joe Blogs is the best with his main channel & his food & travel channel. Everyone should subscribe, share, like, comment. I always miss Joe when he comes through Melbourne. This is the third time I’m aware of. He’s already been here a couple days or a few days so looks like I’ll miss him yet again which is a shame because I live in Melbourne CBD always close to some of the areas he visits. Keep up the good work.
Cool you're in my exact suburb St Kilda, if you need a haircut pop down to my barbershop; Edward Scissorhands Barber in St Kilda
Kul med lite omväxlande innehåll på kanalen…. Livet behöver omväxling på vissa områden 😊
What pleasant looking setting !! Brought a smile to my face as soon as I read the title in the inbox. Fun !
The menu is plastic so it wears better and longer …nothing to do with sea water coming into the restaurant !
You were an economic commentator and a good one . Why have you become a new Gary eats ……strange !
Please open a separate chanel for this BS 🤮 Ruining my playlist and algo
