Greece, N.Y. (WHAM) — It was an emotional day on the field in Greece as teammates celebrated the life of an 11-year-old boy killed in a tragic crash last week. Parker Mitchell’s parents attended the game and shared what the community support has meant to them.
“We’re doing this one for Parker, understand?” said the Greece Chargers’ coach. “Yes, sir!” the team replied.
The Greece Chargers took the field to pay tribute to their teammate, Parker Mitchell. The 11-year-old boy lost his life in a tragic go-kart accident last weekend. The community is rallying around his family.
“The response from the community and our family and our friends has just been, you know, what’s really gotten us through this week. You know, obviously we’re just so devastated, but you know, we just want everybody to know how much what everybody’s doing for us means,” said Jamie Mitchell, Parker’s Mother.
Parker played for the Greece Chargers for the last four years. His parents say he loved football, baseball, and was a huge Bills fan.
“He always was looking for someone to play catch with, or, you know, hit the ball with, and you know, it was just always nonstop, every second. So he just loved loved sports,” said Jamie Mitchell.
“The Bills. Yeah. Oh, the Bills. He was the biggest Bills fan,” said Scott Mitchell, Parker’s Father.
Parker was also part of the Greece Little League, which created a patch in his memory that reads “always with us.”
In their grief, his parents are finding solace in the impact Parker made.
He was known as a fun, loving, and humble kid who extended kindness to others.
“That kid touched everybody. If you met him for half a second, you remembered him. Even if you didn’t know what his name was, you just remembered him. He was a perfect kid,” said Scott Mitchell.
“Just his kindness. He was the sweetest, sweetest boy. I mean, he always thought of other people first,” said Jamie Mitchell.
His parents hope others will now carry on Parker’s legacy.
“I guess the message is be more like Parker,” said Scott Mitchell.
Parker’s sister, who is a cheerleader for the chargers, was injured in the accident.
