Greece U15s reach World Cup semi-finals – The Greek Herald

Greece’s Under-15 national football team secured a place in the semi-finals of the FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival 2026 in Baku after coming from behind to defeat Guinea 2-1.

The young Greek side produced another impressive comeback to reach the competition’s final four, continuing a remarkable tournament campaign.

The achievement is particularly significant for a squad made up entirely of players from the Hellenic Football Federation’s (EPO) Anagennisi development programme.

Competing in a tournament featuring 189 FIFA member associations, Greece progressed through the opening stage to compete in Tier A, which brings together the 32 group winners.

Against Guinea, Greece were forced to fight back after conceding in the 21st minute, when their opponents opened the scoring with a close-range finish inside the penalty area.

The Greek side responded just ten minutes later.

In the 31st minute, Kormanos delivered a well-timed through ball to Priovolos, who found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and calmly converted to level the scores at 1-1.

Six minutes later, Greece completed the turnaround with a swift counter-attack.

This time, Priovolos turned provider, setting up Kakalis, who fired a powerful shot from inside the penalty area to give Greece a 2-1 lead.

The goal proved decisive, securing Greece’s place among the tournament’s final four teams.

The result set up a semi-final meeting with Spain, who had advanced after defeating Colombia 5-0 in their quarter-final.

The semi-final was scheduled for Thursday, 29 October, at 4.15pm Greek time.

The FIFA U-15 World Cup & Festival is an international youth development competition designed to provide emerging footballers with valuable experience against teams from around the world.

Matches are played in an eight-a-side format, with two 20-minute halves, reflecting the developmental focus of the competition.

For Greece’s young squad, the victory over Guinea marked another milestone in an impressive campaign in Baku.
