This pita recipe will no doubt become a favorite. Soft, pliable and full of flavor. Once you make these, you’ll never buy store bought again. Enjoy!
Homemade Greek Pita Bread
4 1/2 cups bread flour, plus more for kneading
2 1/4 tsp. Instant Yeast
1 tsp. Sugar
1 1/2 tsp. Salt
1 1/3 cup Warm water, about 110 degrees
2 Tbsp. Sour cream or greek yogurt
1/3 cups olive oil
In a large bowl whisk together the flour, sugar and yeast.
Mix in the salt, water, sour cream/yogurt, and the olive oil, mix to form a shaggy dough.
Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead till dough is soft and smooth, about 6-8 minutes straight, adding flour as needed to keep from sticking to the counter.
Add the dough ball to a bowl that has been drizzled with olive oil, turn the dough ball around to coat.
Cover bowl and let rise in a warm spot for an hour and a half or until it doubles in size.
Punch down the air then turn the dough out onto a floured surface and form into a rectangle.
Divide the dough into 8-10 pieces
With a rolling pin, roll out dough to about 6” round.
Drizzle a little olive oil onto a preheated pan (medium heat)
Cooking one pita at a time, cook for about 3 minutes each side or until bubbles form and brown on both sides. Store in a bread bag or zip lock. These also freeze really well.

I want a pocket in my pita.
I've seen that poking holes with a fork helps prevent bubbling.
Lots of love ❤️ from USA! Çok güzel! Maşallah!
Can you give list of ingredients in grams, ecc ?
Water 110 degrees I suppose is in Fahrenheit degrees , right ?
I freeze them and when needed I reheat them in the microwave without defrosting ,because they are still frozen the frost by turning into water prevent them from drying
Can't wait to make this tomorrow 🤞🏼 Watched all your videos, my fav cooking channel! So elegant 🙌🏼
I like how thinner these are than like restaurant style. I wanna make some that are nice and thin.

Does it separate
needs more salt
Can I make a half recipe? I'm sure everything else will halve well, but I'm uncertain as to whether I should cut the yeast down.

Hi when you put the yeast directly with the flour, it does not melt nicely like you put it in the water. The dough is too grainy from the yeast. thanks
Hi your measurement are wrong, this is ,ore than 4 1/2 cup flour. Your dough look way bigger amount of 4 1/2 cups flour.
I'm doing it now…. lots of love from Singapore 🇸🇬 ❤
