TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The Greek Food Festival is officially underway at the Holy Mother of God Greek Orthodox Church.
Large crowds were already seen gathering and digging into lunch. Thousands attend the event every year to celebrate Greek culture.
Kara Dentzau and Corinne Watkins are originally from Tallahassee but moved away. They are in town for a wedding and made it a priority to stop by Friday to join in on the excitement.
“Being able to come back and see that it’s even bigger, busier, even more popular, it just makes me so happy to come back here how much it’s thriving,” Dentzau said.
“The dancing, the food, oh my gosh, a couple of times I’ve been able to go up and dance and it is so much fun,” Watkins said.

And it’s not just the visitors that enjoy the experience but also the people putting on the event.
“For me it’s more like family, because this is a time that all the family can get together and we just celebrate and have so much fun doing this for the public, we really enjoy it,” Festival Committee Member Koulla Butler said. “It’s very family-oriented. We welcome everyone to come out and try it.”
And family tradition is a big part of what makes this festival special.
Stephanie Joanos and her family have helped put on this festival for decades, and she says it means so much to share their culture with the community.
“It really means a lot; the community comes out and supports us every year,” Joanos said. “It’s just a big family affair.”
The festival is open Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with free admission.
