NEW YORK – Ahead of the ‘Discover Greece in New York’ Tourism Open Days Workshop, an exclusive evening showcasing Greece’s exceptional destinations, hotels, and travel experiences, The National Herald on October 20 welcomed to its offices a delegation from Greece, including Regional Governor of Central Greece Fanis Spanos, Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism Fani Papathoma, Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Panagiotis Archontis, Alexandroupolis Mayor Ioannis Zampoukis, 360 Health CEO and co-founder Ioannis Marketos, and Bergmann Kord Executive General Manager Vardis Korderas.
TNH co-publishers-co-editors Eraklis Diamataris and Vanessa Diamataris met with the delegation for a discussion on the efforts to highlight these perhaps less well-known areas of Greece which offer a treasure trove of experiences for travelers in search of the authentic Greece, beautiful natural landscapes and seascapes, rich history, exceptional local products, and delicious cuisine to enjoy.
Regional Governor of Central Greece Fanis Spanos told TNH that it was an honor and a joy to visit the historic newspaper, in the course of productive meetings in the effort to promote Central Greece and indeed all of Greece to all the world and wherever Greeks live, noting that the consistent, sustained effort benefits the homeland. He noted that we continue [this effort] because we have the luck and the honor to serve a unique land… and it is for our unique people that we are working to make our region stronger and more well-known and we thank TNH and the Diamataris family for this opportunity.
Alexandroupolis Mayor Ioannis Zampoukis noted the effort to promote his city as the authentic Greece. We’re not Mykonos or Santorini, he told TNH, but we are an authentic element of our country, the culture, the history, the beauty of nature, the seaside, the beauty and the experiences of the forest of Dadia, the Evros delta, the island of Samothrace, the gastronomy of our region, and Greek hospitality. Our best element is the hospitality of Greeks, Thracians and Alexandroupolites.

Deputy Regional Governor for Tourism of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace Panagiotis Archontis shared with TNH the best wishes of Regional Governor Christodoulos Topsidis who could not attend, noting that the region, having worked with TNH over the years, recognizes TNH’s efforts to maintain the traditions and language of Greece and the support of this particular effort, for people who have visited Greece and think they know Greece to think again. Eastern Macedonia and Thrace are not as well-known as other areas of Greece, but the region is a hidden gem with everything you could want in a destination, beginning with the classic model of sunny beaches, but also has a tremendous historic aspect, the religious aspect in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul, and gastronomy based on the recipes the Yiayiades brought with them from Constantinople, and the incredible products, from the Evros to Kavala and Drama, the world-renowned wines of Drama and Kavala and generally it is a region that offers all the beauty of Greece without any markdowns. We invite everyone to visit our region to see more of Greece and the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace looks forward to continuing to work with TNH to promote even more destinations.

Marketos noted that their approach is holistic and their main focus is on the individual person and their health, that they feel safe and receive the best care while also enjoying the benefits of a stay in Greece with his or her partner.
