The Greek Community of Melbourne Language and Culture Schools are opening their doors and inviting families to join Open Week 2026, a special week celebrating Greek language, history, culture and our school community.
From 23 to 30 October, each campus will host its own Open Day, giving parents, children and grandparents the opportunity to visit their local Greek school and experience what makes our schools special.
Held during the week of the Greek National Day celebrations on 28 October (Ohi Day), Open Week will give visitors the chance to step inside our classrooms, observe lessons and school celebrations, meet our teachers and students, and discover how Greek language and culture come to life through learning, play and creative activities.
Open Week is particularly aimed at families considering enrolling their children in Greek school in 2027. It is an opportunity to explore the school environment, learn about our educational programs, speak with teachers and discover the learning opportunities available for their children.
More than just a Greek language school
At the Greek Community of Melbourne Schools, we believe that learning Greek is about much more than learning a language. It is an opportunity for children to build friendships, connect with their roots, develop their sense of identity and feel part of a wider Greek community.
As the Principal of the Greek Community of Melbourne Schools, Maria Bakalidou, explains: “Through Open Week, we want to give families the opportunity to experience our schools firsthand. We invite them to step into our classrooms, meet our teachers and see children learning, creating and enjoying the Greek language.
“For us, Greek school is more than just a place to learn. It is a place where children build friendships, connect with their heritage and develop a sense of belonging to a wider community,” she added.
Greek language and culture for all ages
The Greek Community of Melbourne Schools offer a wide range of educational programs for children, teenagers and adults across Melbourne.
With campuses in Melbourne CBD, Alphington, Balwyn, Doncaster, Wollert, Windsor, Bentleigh and Glen Waverley, the schools provide Greek language and culture programs from kindergarten through to VCE, as well as Classical Greek programs for secondary school students.
The GCM Schools also offer Early Learning Activities (ELA) programs, introducing young children to Greek through play, Greek language classes for adults both in person and online, and a variety of theatre, arts and traditional Greek dance programs.
With options for different ages, language levels and learning needs, the school’s aim is to give every student the opportunity to learn Greek, explore Greek culture and develop a meaningful connection with their heritage.
