Recently, broadcaster Choi Hwa Jeong chose Greek yogurt as a food she makes sure to eat for breakfast on her YouTube channel. In the video, Choi Hwa Jeong said, “Greek yogurt is one of the protein-rich longevity foods,” adding, “It has more protein than tofu.” Choi Hwa Jeong, who said it is especially important to make sure to eat protein-rich foods for breakfast, introduced her own diet Greek yogurt recipe.
After taking out the unsweetened Greek yogurt she usually eats, Choi Hwa Jeong said she mixes it with chia seeds. Choi Hwa Jeong said, “They are rich in dietary fiber,” adding, “I hear chia seeds serve as food for probiotics, so they are much better.” She then added about three spoonfuls of chia seeds to one container of yogurt. Generally, one cup of Greek yogurt, about 200g, contains approximately 15–20g of protein, depending on the product. Protein helps maintain satiety and preserve muscle mass, making it a good food to eat during a diet. It also contains probiotics that support gut health. In fact, when a research team from Nada Gelf University and Mount Saint Vincent University compared milk, cheese, and plain Greek yogurt in 30 young adults and 30 older adults, the group that ate Greek yogurt reported significantly lower subjective appetite for three hours after eating than the group that drank water.
The chia seeds Choi Hwa Jeong adds are rich in dietary fiber and alpha-linolenic acid, a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid. Dietary fiber helps maintain satiety and promote regular bowel movements, while omega-3 fatty acids are nutrients needed to maintain normal bodily functions.
Eating Greek yogurt and chia seeds together has the advantage of replenishing protein and dietary fiber at once. The protein in Greek yogurt helps maintain satiety, while chia seeds absorb water and expand in volume, which may help increase satiety. They are useful as a snack or breakfast during a diet, and adding fruit or nuts can provide a range of additional nutrients.
However, check the nutrition label when buying Greek yogurt. Products with added sugar or syrup may be higher in sugar and calories, so it is best to choose an unsweetened product. Chia seeds also contain calories, so it is advisable to consume an appropriate amount rather than adding too much at once.
