Add a little Greek to your autumn weekend

CAMPBELL, Ohio (WKBN) – There are many things to celebrate in the fall in the Valley, and one of them is coming up this weekend.

The Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church’s annual Greek Food Festival kicks off Friday on 12th Street in Campbell.

The three-day festival features homemade Greek food, Greek music, folk dance performances, cultural and religious items, Greek specialty coffee, wine tasting and sales, and games and activities for the kids.

“This is our Winterfest or Fall Fest. It’s a Greek food festival. We have great pastries, Greek food, entertainment. We also have our beloved nuns from the monastery and Saxonburg who have our religious items as well,” said Parish Council President Emanouel Frangos. “We have our Greek dishes: lamb, souvlaki, gyro, moussaka. Again, the pastries, all the great pastries that you’re used to having –the baklava and all the others.”

The twice-yearly festival features entertainment for all ages.

“We have the dance groups. The young groups all the way up to the young adults. They’ll be dancing on Friday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Saturday from 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.,” said Frangos. “We also have our bar where you can get a Greek mythos, a beer, some Greek wine, and other refreshments as well.”

The festival is also important to the church not only to raise money but also to create fellowship and community.

“All the Archangel Michael parishioners and community, we get together to work and to raise funds for our church, but in the meantime, we’re also doing fellowship, so it’s a wonderful thing that we all come together to do, and we like to see all the people that come and enjoy the food and the events,” said Frangos. “It’s a lot of work, but it brings us together. It brings the community together. It allows us to share our faith, our culture, our food with our friends and family that come from far away to visit.”

The Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Greek Food Festival is Friday, October 2, through Sunday, October 4. On Friday and Saturday, the festival runs from noon to 10 p.m., and from noon until 9 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free, credit cards are accepted, and carry-out is available.

The church is located at 401 12th Street in Campbell. For more information, visit ArchangelMichael.oh.goarch.org.
