Fenix makes an entrance before the food even arrives. In the Goods Yard building on the edge of Spinningfields, it’s a restaurant built around Greek mythology, dramatic design and the feeling that dinner can take you somewhere else for a few hours. There’s a restaurant upstairs and the Nest Bar for cocktails, Greek wines and a bite to eat. You can come for lunch, dress up for dinner or let the evening run late.
The menu draws on Greek and Mediterranean cooking, with plenty to share. Think meze to get the table going, then vegetables, seafood and meat with the smoky flavours of the grill. It’s the sort of place where ordering together makes the meal more fun: pass a plate across the table, try something you wouldn’t usually choose and make a bit of an evening of it. Fenix also offers a set lunch menu, with dishes starting from £29.50.
When I Love Manchester last visited Fenix, the food made as strong an impression as the room. The scents from the grill, the Greek influences and the space between the tables all helped make a meal there feel like an escape from the city outside. That visit covered a summer menu, so expect the dishes to change, but it captures why people return: Fenix knows how to make dinner feel like a night out.
Fenix comes from Manchester brothers Adam and Drew Jones, who also created Tattu and Louis. Each has its own character, and Fenix is their love letter to Greek dining. For something more lively, the venue runs OPA evenings, where dinner leads into music and traditional plate smashing. If you’d prefer to start gently, take a seat in the Nest Bar and see where the night goes.
It’s an easy choice when you’re celebrating, taking visitors out or simply fancy a meal that feels different from the everyday. You can also find it in our guide to the best restaurants in Greater Manchester.
