BETHESDA, MD – The Hellenic Society Prometheas hosted a highly successful Fall Social Gathering at the Hellenic Center in Bethesda on September 19. The evening featured a vibrant art exhibit by Georgetown University student Evyia Makrodimitri and an exceptional musical performance by the local band Parea.
As the St. Katherine’s Community band, Parea is comprised of talented professionals united by their shared passion for Greek music, specifically Laika and Rebetika. Joined by singer Georgios Theodoridis, the 12-member ensemble performed classic Rebetika songs, including ‘Pame sto Faliro’ (Πάμε στο Φάληρο), ‘Archontissa’ (Αρχόντισσα), and ‘Ta Ziliarika Sou Matia’ (Tα ζηλιάρικά σου μάτια). Guided by a QR code provided by the band, the audience eagerly sang along. The musicians’ palpable joy matched the enthusiasm of the crowd, creating an infectious energy that prompted many to get up and dance. To close the evening, Hellenic Society Prometheas President John Yamanis thanked Parea for an unforgettable performance and invited everyone to a reception.
This excellent, free-of-charge gathering continues to grow each year, cementing its place as one of the Washington metro area’s most anticipated events.
