This video is part 2 of my short series “Hitchhiking and wild camping on Greek Islands”. Part 1 is on Samos island.
I was there in May 2026, before the tourists arrived. I was 4 days on Samos and 3 days on Ikaria. I came by ferry from Kavala. The boat costs 37 euro for an Economy ticket (sleeping on the deck) from Kavala to Samos (one way). I spent 80 euro on boat tickets, and about 80 euro on food that I bought in Kavala. Food prices on the islands are a little higher. I traveled with a JetBoil, that came in handy for stealth cooking in the streets and on the ferry. Gas canisters were surprisingly easy to find in supermarkets. I never paid for accommodation, but camped out in the forests or on the beaches. Samos and Ikaria felt very safe.

So much of Greece seems very unrestricted.
I spent 3 weeks on Folegandros island and walked and hiked wherever I wanted.

I'm Norwegian, and Greece is my favorite destination.
I even went twice last year. Last trip, as always alone, was spending Christmas and New Year's eve in Athens. Loved it. Gonna repeat it this year 🤞

Wow, this was a wonderful excursion!
Sometimes I forget there are still places in the world where you're not constantly bombarded with noise and industry and traffic, but you can still be connected to the world WHEN you want to, not because you have little choice. I also forget how stunning those turquoise waters of the Greek islands are, it's almost surreal. Many thanks for the video, Miriam, this was very relaxing and inspiring.
