Preston Market Greek Day
Greek Day returns to Preston Market this Sunday. The northside market will host live music, dance entertainment, free kids’ activities and an array of food and merch pop-up stalls.
The dancing will be provided by Manasis School of Greek Dance and Culture, who will be performing throughout the day with their traditional moves and authentic folk costumes.
Some of the food event-goers can expect will be from pop-up stalls of St.Gerry’s Greek Donuts, Twista Bros Potato Twists and more.
And for the young, they can be entertained with a variety of kid’s activities from 11am to 1pm, including pot decorating and seed planting.

Melbourne International Comedy Festival
The Melbourne International Comedy Festival is one of the three largest comedy festivals in the world.
An annual event, the festival literally takes over Australia’s comedy capital, Melbourne, each autumn with an enormous program of stand-up, cabaret, theatre, street performance and more. Meanwhile, Australia’s largest arts festival is once again pitching its tent at the Greek Centre from 28 March to 21 April as the Melbourne International Comedy Festival hits town. The Greek Centre will be transformed into comedy central creating a venue that features six rooms and boasts an international line-up of artists such as Danny Bhoy (Sco), Jason Leung (Mys), Helen Bauer (UK), Elf Lyons (UK) and more.
As always, there will be plenty of Greek shows to enjoy. Anthony Locascio “Pappou”, Effie “UpYourselfness”, Chris Demos “Legs in the Pool”, George Zacharopoulos – 2024 Greek Comedian of the Year “Greek in the Sheets”, Elouise Eftos “Australia’s First Attractive Comedian” and Charisa Bossinakis “Thank You for Your Time” to name a few.

Ancient Attire: Kids’ Holiday Workshop
Discover tales of tailoring in Ancient Greece, construct your own ancient clothing and put it to the test in a series of physical challenges.
Kids will find out the answers to why so many ancient statues are naked? How was an old shirt so deadly that it managed to kill the mighty Hercules? Did the ancient Greeks have pockets in their robes — and if not, where did they keep their loose change!?
They’ll then get to make their very own ancient cloak, hat and staff, before embarking on a series of physical challenges.
Recommended for ages 6-13.

Hippocrates and Modern Medicine
In this insightful talk with Q&A, Associate Professor Vicki Kotsirilos AM explores the enduring legacy of the ancient Greek ‘Father of Medicine.
Ancient Greek physician Hippocrates (ca. 460–377 BCE) was ahead of his time in many ways. His teachings shaped the foundations of modern medicine and continue to remain relevant today.
Kotsirilos AM will speak on the various Hippocratic treatments and philosophy used in Antiquity, and its relevance to modern medicine, citing from the available research. 45-minute talk followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.

Speaker Series: Nikos Kazantzakis in Australia! A Vision and a Tribute
A free literary event combining an imaginary visit of Nikos Kazantzakis to Australia and a presentation of writings produced in Australia by academics.
Drawing from Kazantzakis’ oeuvre with some live Cretan music performed by Michael Platyrrahos playing his lyra.
Nikos Kazantzakis (1883-1957) was a Greek writer, journalist, politician, poet and philosopher and remains the most translated Greek author worldwide.
He is best known for his novels Zorba the Greek and The Last Temptation of Christ. Come along to a book launch of Ο Καζαντζάκης στην Αυστραλία/ (Kazantzakis in Australia) and enjoy an exercise in creative imagination.

The Girl From Greece – Saloni Sessions
Join Mel & Kat and the Girl from Greece band for the third Saloni Session at South Brisbane’s real-life musical Saloni ‘It’s Still A Secret’.
