I’ve forever been a ‘no-toes-on-show’ person. Loafers, mesh flats and ballet trainers have long been on rotation in my summer wardrobe. But following the recent heatwave, I’ve found myself reconsidering my stance on open-toe footwear.
What’s often held me back in the sandal department is finding a pair that balances function and form; a sensible style that can carry me from the beach to a bar, but also feels supportive enough to see me through long office days.
My research began in the ELLE UK offices where I posed the question to fellow colleagues, to which I was met with an overwhelming response. A few brands were thrown into conversation, but there was a common denominator: Ancient Greek Sandals – and in particular, the Eleftheria. The messaging was clear: understated, comfortable and a must-have for summer dressing. Not to mention, the rubber iteration is waterproof – a handy feature in this unpredictable climate.

The design is intentionally minimal, with only Gladiator-style braided straps and the aforementioned toe loop to keep your foot in place. Paired with a fresh pedicure, the sleek silhouette will subtly elevate any outfit – whether peeping out of linen trousers or worn with a breezy maxi dress. Consider myself sold.
