John-Michael Lyles to succeed Joshua Colley in ‘Hadestown’

Colley will depart the show early, at the end of the month, and A Strange Loop star Lyles will take over the role of Orpheus beginning in mid-June.

Joshua Colley (Descendants: The Rise Of Red) will play his final performance as Orpheus in Hadestown on Broadway on May 31, and John-Michael Lyles (A Strange Loop, The Heart of Rock and Roll) will take over the role from June 16.

Current cast members Jeffrey Cornelius and Brandon Cameron will perform the role of Orpheus for the weeks of June 2 and June 9, respectively.

Lyles will join continuing stars Jordan Tyson as Eurydice, Tony and Grammy Award winner J. Harrison Ghee as Hermes, Grammy winner Gaby Moreno as Persephone, SAG Award winner Gary Dourdan as Hades, and Jewelle Blackman, Jessie Shelton, and Kay Trinidad as the Fates.

Anaïs Mitchell’s Hadestown puts a modern spin on Greek mythology, retelling the tragic love story of Orpheus and Eurydice with a folk and jazz score. The show recently celebrated its seventh anniversary at the Walter Kerr Theatre.
