NEW YORK – The Hellenic Youth Show Choir of Phyto Stratis performs a theatrical concert titled ‘Άλλος με την Βάρκα μας’ (‘Allos me tin Varka Mas’) on Friday, June 26, 6:30 PM, at the Hellenic Cultural Center, 25-02 Newtown Avenue in Astoria, NY.
“This special production is dedicated to the memory of our beloved national star, Aliki Vougiouklaki, commemorating 30 years since her passing,” Stratis said. “For generations of Greeks and Cypriots, Aliki represented joy, innocence, warmth, music, and the magic of Greek cinema. Through this concert, we hope to introduce her spirit and artistic legacy to a new generation of Greek-American and Cypriot-American children and families.”
“At its heart, however, this production is about our children,” Stratis noted. “Every week, these young performers come together to sing in Greek, learn our music, honor our traditions, and strengthen their connection to their heritage through music and theater. In a time when younger generations are becoming increasingly distant from their roots, this choir has become a meaningful artistic and cultural home for many children in our community.”
“We are honored that the event has already been placed under official consular auspices, and that the Consul General will also be in attendance for this special evening celebrating our children and our culture,” Stratis said.
