Renowned Greek singer Dimitris Basis and Greek Australian soprano Angelica Zafiris shared the stage in a debut performance that highlighted the evolving influence of Greek music in Australia.
The performance at Taryn Fiebig Concert Hall featured the West Australian Youth Orchestra under conductor Jon Tooby, blending classical orchestration with traditional Greek music. Guitarist and orchestrator George Doukas and bouzouki soloist Themelis Samarkos also performed.
Basis, a leading figure in contemporary Greek music, performed alongside Zafiris in her professional debut, which organizers described as a milestone for the Greek diaspora community.
Zafiris, who trained with the West Australian Young Voices Choir and has studied a range of classical and traditional styles, was praised by organizers for her technical control and stage presence.
The concert underscored ongoing efforts to promote Greek musical heritage within Australia’s multicultural arts scene and strengthen cultural ties across generations.
