Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Encinitas will turn its campus into a Greek island village for the 44th annual Cardiff Greek Festival Sept. 7-8.
A traditional marketplace, Agora, will sell Greek imports, jewelry, artwork and delicacies. The marketplace will feature Greek dishes, ranging from Greek-style roasted lamb shanks, gyros, shish-kabobs and sausage to stuffed grape leaves, lemon chicken, spinach pie, feta fries, Greek salad, pastries and specialty coffees. Greek wine expert Michael Pavlidis from Boukali Wines will offer classes and tastings of imported wines from several regions of Greece. Festivities also include a Kids Zone with games.
Rev. Father Michael Sitaras, pastor of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, will lead tours of the inside of the church, which has mosaic art under its golden dome.
A limited number of opportunity drawing tickets for a chance to win $10,000 or a fully paid 2-year lease for a 2024 Hyundai SUV are $20 at cardiffgreekfestival@gmail.com and at the festival.
The festival is from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sept. 7 and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 8 at 3459 Manchester Ave. Free parking is available next door at Mira Costa College’s Encinitas campus. Admission is $4; free for children younger than 12, active military, police, and firefighters with ID. No pets; ADA certified service dogs only.
