Chicago’s Taste of Greektown festival will return for its 36th year from Friday, Aug. 28, through Sunday, Aug. 30, bringing Greek food, music and dancing to Halsted Street in the city’s Greektown neighborhood. The event will run from Adams to Van Buren and is billed as Chicago’s largest celebration of Hellenic cuisine and culture, according to the announcement.
Admission is free, with a suggested donation benefiting the Greektown Chamber of Commerce. The festival opens Friday from 4-10 p.m., then continues Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m.-10 p.m.

Food, music and neighborhood legacy
Restaurants and bars from the neighborhood will anchor the event, including 9 Muses Bar & Grill, Athena Restaurant, Mr. Greek Gyros, Ithaki Estiatorio, Spectrum Bar & Grill and Zeus Restaurant. According to the announcement, many of those businesses are Greek American family operations that have served Greektown for more than 25 years.
Organizers said visitors can expect live music, Greek dancing, shopping and family activities throughout the weekend. More details on participating restaurants, merchants and entertainment will be announced closer to the event.

A long-running Chicago tradition
Greektown has been a center of Chicago’s Greek dining scene for decades and has been located along Halsted Street for more than 60 years, the announcement confirmed. The neighborhood says it remains the city’s largest concentration of Greek restaurants while blending heritage, community and modern nightlife.
The festival is presented by the Greektown Chamber of Commerce with support from Greektown SSA #16. For updates, Greektown Chicago said to visit GreektownChicago.org.
