Jota Silva Achieves Olympiacos Feat After Scoring Hattrick Against Kalamata

Jota Silva broke records with his hat-trick of goals in Olympiacos’ Super League Greece match against Kalamata.

A report by Sport24.gr outlines that Silva became the first Portuguese player in Olympiacos’ history to net a hat-trick in an official match. Simultaneously, he emerged as the second-ever Portuguese footballer to score three goals in a match in the history of the Greek top flight. Nelson Oliveira was the first one.

The 27-year-old forward became the Red and Whites’ first hattrick scorer in almost two years since Ayoub El Kaabi achieved the feat in a 4-1 victory over AEK Athens on November 24, 2024 in Matchday 12 of the Super League Greece’s 2024-25 season.

Apart from club and league records, it was Silva’s first career hat-trick in an official match. Till now, his ceiling was two goals in a single match, which he netted while donning Casa Pia colours against Leixoes on May 15, 2022, in the Portuguese second division.

Silva completed his hat-trick in under nine minutes, with the first two goals coming in the 37th and 40th minutes. The third came just after the resumption of play following the break. Olympiacos cruised to a 5-0 victory over Kalamata in the eighth matchday of the league campaign as Marius Mouandilmadji opened his goalscoring account for the club and Leon Bailey netted the final one.

If we compare his hat-trick to the other ones scored in the Greek top division, Silva’s one is the second fastest hat-trick in the history of Olympiacos. Peter Ofori-Quaye keeps his top spot after scoring three goals in six minutes back in 2002 in a 6-0 win over Ethnikos Asteras.

The former Nottingham Forest man’s three-goal haul from the game took his total league goal tally of the season to 5, as he remains the joint top scorer alongside AEK Athens’ Barnabas Varga.

The victory over Kalamata helped Olympiacos seal their seventh consecutive win in a run which started with a 2-1 triumph against Jagiellonia Bialystok in the UEFA Europa League. Currently, the Greek giants have three wins out of the three matches played in European competition this season, while their league points tally stands at 19 points as they occupy second place provisionally. While they dispatched their eternal rivals Panathinaikos with a narrow scoreline, the Piraeus outfit are still two points behind them on the standings, remaining under threat of an overtake by third-placed AEK, who have played a game less.
