Leading up to the Homecoming game, the Pep Rally and Skit Night took place on Thursday, Oct. 1. The event featured skits from on-campus groups, announced the spirit cup winners and saw the crowning of the duke and duchess.
The night began with performances by Cheer and Dance before Relay For Life chair uniorCaden Campbelltook the stage. Campbell announced the theme for Relay for Life this year is Tie Dye. Three members of Delta Kappa Pi (DKP) fraternity, junior Chance Mock, senior Eli Marez and sophomore John Donnalin shaved their heads in solidarity with those fighting cancer.
The judges for this year’s skits were Associate Director of the Service Center Krew Tran, Frees Hall Community Director Alyssa Plock, Senior Accountant Devin Marvin and Brodie Hall Community Director Rob Hardy.
First up was Alpha Omega (AO) fraternity, who shoved marshmallows in their mouths while telling the crowd to come to their social. Following this was Alpha Pi Epsilon (APE) fraternity with a music competition that led to one group literally killing the competition. Judge Tran was disappointed that the APEs did not use the extension cord he provided for them.
The Chi Delta sorority led the audience on a tour of rock music through the decades with a group dance at the end. Tau Sigma Zeta fraternity did a dance number to “I Was Made for Loving You” by KISS. Judge Marvin remarked that the group’s lime green ski masks “did not mask your lack of rhythm.”
Omega Psi Theta sorority did a dance battle between soft and hard rock, coming together to dance to Queen songs at the end. Gamma Phi Iota wrestled with a static radio on their way to the Homecoming game, resulting in a number of dance sequences.
DKP performed a mashup of popular rock songs complete with plenty of backflips. Phi Sigma Tau sorority followed with a song mashup as well, with judges commenting on the personality of those up front. Judge Hardy also commented on the giant cardboard signs labeled “wind” that were used to fan the dancing members.
Chi Delta won best shield and skit and tied with Tau Sigma Zeta for best banner. Best window went to the APEs. Student Body President senior Trey Putle announced Chi Delta as the winners of the spirit cup.
Seniors Sam Hartman and Laura Hasemann won Duke and Duchess, respectively.
