Christos Tzolis will miss Greece’s Nations League game against Germany on Sunday after suffering a suspected hamstring injury in Thursday’s 2-2 draw with the Netherlands in Thessaloniki.

The Arsenal winger was substituted after 18 minutes after receiving treatment on the field. He initially tried to continue but was eventually replaced by Giorgos Masouras.

Tzolis had briefly appeared to put Greece ahead shortly before the injury, but his goal was ruled out for offside against striker Vangelis Pavlidis.

Greece coach Ivan Jovanovic said Tzolis initially resisted coming off but was withdrawn after consultation with the team’s medical staff.

“When it’s a muscular issue, that, along with the advice of the doctors and the information I had at the time, was the reason I asked for him to come off immediately,” Jovanovic said.

Tzolis is expected to return to Arsenal for further assessment. He joined the Premier League club from Club Brugge in the summer for a reported £34 million.
