This week’s cultural listings bring a rebetiko tribute touring rural villages, a bouzouki-focused celebration of Greek folk music, contemporary dance in Lagoudera, plus the exhibitions and cinema releases carrying over from earlier in the week.

Koilani, Events Venue, Tuesday August 11, 9pm. Music performance “Rebetiko – World Cultural Heritage” pays tribute to rebetiko song, recognised by UNESCO as an element of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, presented as part of the 2026 Cultural Decentralisation Programme. The production holds a special place for the participation of acclaimed rebetiko musician Giorgos Tzortzis, whose long career and deep knowledge of rebetiko lend authenticity and artistic weight to the performance. Music performance “The Three-String Journey” pays tribute to the three-string bouzouki and the enduring path of Greek folk song, presented as part of the 2026 Cultural Decentralisation Programme. Artistic direction by Christos Filippou, who also takes part on piano and narration. Lagoudera, Church of Agios Georgios, Tuesday August 11, 8.30pm. Contemporary dance piece “Frear” by Selas Dance Company takes audiences on an experiential journey through memory, time and transformation, touring six Cypriot communities in August as part of the 2026 Cultural Decentralisation Programme. Research and choreography by Maria Kamperi, with music composition and live performance on stage by Dimitris Giasemides, featuring dancer Apollonas Anastasiadis and Sotos Charalambous on sound and lighting.
