Demetrios Katis Completes One of the World’s Earliest Completed Feature-Length AI-Assisted Films

Internationally acclaimed composer, filmmaker and writer Demetrios Katis has completed HELICON, one of the world’s earliest completed feature-length AI-assisted films, an ambitious original science-fiction epic inspired by the cultural and philosophical legacy of Ancient Greece.
Running approximately 60 minutes, HELICON was conceived from the very beginning as a genuine cinematic feature rather than an AI experiment, short demonstration or collection of generated visuals. Built from an original screenplay, original story, and original musical score by Demetrios Katis, the film represents nearly a year of continuous creative work and stands among the first completed feature-length AI-assisted narrative productions worldwide.
Written, directed, composed and edited by Demetrios Katis, every aspect of the production remained under the filmmaker’s direct creative control, from the screenplay and cinematic direction to music composition, editing, sound design and final post- production.

Unlike historical dramas, HELICON is entirely a work of fiction.
Based on an original story and screenplay by Demetrios Katis, the film is not a historical reconstruction of Ancient Greece. Instead, it unfolds within a fictional Hellenistic world inspired by the late Hellenistic period, at the dawn of the Roman era, where philosophy, mystery, destiny, romance and science fiction merge into a completely original cinematic experience.
While inspired by the architecture, spirituality and intellectual legacy of the Greek world, HELICON does not portray historical figures, documented locations or actual historical events. It presents a unique fictional universe where speculative science fiction and Greek cultural heritage coexist in a visually rich and emotionally immersive world.
With minimal dialogue, atmospheric storytelling and an original orchestral score composed by Katis, HELICON delivers a cinematic journey that blends epic historical ambience with cosmic mystery, philosophical reflection, and emotional storytelling.
Even before its public release, HELICON has already begun attracting international recognition.
The film has received an Official Nomination for Best AI-Assisted Film at the 10th Anniversary Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival (TINFF@10) in Canada, placing the Greek production among a select group of international films helping define the future of AI-assisted cinema.
The official winners will be announced during the festival’s Closing Gala Awards Ceremony on September 12, 2026.
Audience response has also been exceptionally strong.
The official HELICON trailer surpassed 29,000 YouTube views within its first eighteen days, becoming the highest-performing recent release on Katis’ official YouTube channel while generating hundreds of audience reactions, comments and shares from viewers around the world.
Earlier this summer, one of Greece’s leading news organizations, Newsit.gr, presented HELICON as one of the world’s first completed feature-length AI-assisted films, highlighting the production as a milestone that could reshape the future of independent filmmaking.
Born in Athens, Demetrios Katis later lived and worked extensively in Los Angeles and New York, building an international career spanning music, filmmaking and journalism.
His work has earned international recognition through distinctions including the Billboard World Song Awards, Los Angeles Music Awards, Hollywood Music in Media Awards and the Hollywood F.A.M.E. Awards. He is also an EMI Platinum recording artist as founder of the legendary Greek epic rock band EXORISTOI.
His previous feature film, Broken Circle, received more than fifty international awards before becoming available on streaming platforms including Amazon Prime Video UK and Plex.
Katis is also the Founder and President of the MUSES FILM AWARDS – Levadia International Film Festival, an international festival that brings together filmmakers from around the world while promoting cinematic excellence and Greek culture.
At a time when artificial intelligence is often associated with rapidly generated online content, HELICON represents a fundamentally different approach to filmmaking.
The production required thousands of creative decisions involving screenplay development, world building, cinematic composition, character continuity, editing, music composition, sound design, and post-production. Rather than replacing the filmmaker, artificial intelligence became part of a carefully directed creative workflow serving a singular artistic vision.
HELICON demonstrates how emerging technologies can empower independent filmmakers to create ambitious cinematic works while preserving artistic authorship, emotional storytelling, and the essence of cinema itself.
Following its international festival journey, HELICON is expected to become available to audiences during the coming winter.
