The 2028 games are also already looking like a mess, not as big as 2032 but the original plan was to stage all events in California to reduce travel costs but because there are now so many events there isn't enough room for them all. They have to hold some in Oklahoma City – a 3 hour flight away. Also because a lot of events are sharing venues some have to start four days before the opening ceremony, in which case they might as well make it three weeks instead of two.
I'm a Melburnian but I love Brisbane. Aside from the congestion issues (which even my City has) it is still a great place to visit. It's sunny, warm and there's always a great vibe. I won't get into transportational issues (as I'm not a resident) but initiatives like 50 Cents Transport have been really great and will absolutely make it easier for Tourists to afford to move around during the Olympics without spending a Kings Ransom to do so. Really hope they can sort out their infrastructural issues.
As for Budgetary blowouts, it's not a problem unique to Brisbane. We in Melbourne had a massive Budgetary blowout on our Metro Tunnel which is very far from ideal, but honestly it's better to spend the extra money to get something right, rather than try so hard to stay under budget that you compromise in key areas of a projects development.
Being referred to as the florida of australia is such a fk off
brisbane isnt ready for the olympics. most of us here dont even want it here. they renovated a beloved park that families use and my siblings and i grew up in. we love brisbane because of how quiet and simple the city is.
This video is so out of touch…
Brisbane will handle the 2032 Olympics just fine.
as someone who lives there – firstly, we're aussie texas, we have young rednecks too not just old ones
some things that were left out/happened after this video
– the gabba reconstruction would've required them to knock down houses in the area and their plan was pretty much just to kick them out
– it wasn't just a cost of living thing (although that was significant), there's now a shortage of skilled laborers(i.e. construction workers), so other things are costing more and getting delayed on top of the other cost of living issues
– Brisbane in GENERAL doesn't have good enough public transport and road infrastructure to handle the people we have now, even streets in the suburbs are full of traffic on like 1pm on a Tuesday, a million more tourists all at once would put a good amount of strain on that
– there's really nothing to do or see, it's a pretty tame city, and it's not exactly one that many people outside of Australia and surrounding places would easily know (like Sydney), and from the high cost of all the construction it's unlikely the money could be made back
You say: "temperatures here reach up to 40DegC when it isn't the rainy season". OK so summer (when it's hottest) in Brisbane Nov-March absolutely IS the rainy season. Indeed Brisbane will get almost half its average annual rainfall in just Feb and March. Now, here's the thing, because it's so humid and because of the cloud cover (it's raining) average summer temps in Brisbane max out at 36DegC. There is simply too much humidity for it to get much hotter. That's not to say it never does get hotter, it can to when dry north westerlies are blowing in from the Northern Territory. These same winds hit Melbourne (much further south) during the Australian Open and create temps for 42DegC and above. These winds hitting brisbane mix with the moisture laden subtropical air and create massive thunder storms which cool the temps (which it why it rarely exceeds 36 here). I'm a HUGE fan of this channel and have normally found the factual based documentaries very good but starting this one with such a glaring inaccuracy just calls the rest of the (incredibly valid) points into question!!! The crocodiles may help the swimming events set new world records.
@0:26–0:32: What about Atlanta?
You missed the best part of that politician was saying, “Every three months a person is ripped to pieces by a crocodile in North Queensland”
I Think you got ANZ stadium and Suncorp stadium mixed up!
Brisbane will be the first city botching the Olympic games. Not a chance the infrastructure will be ready in time
They will happen. Thanks.
LA will be a financial disaster. The Brisbane Olympics may never happen? War will likely stop any traveler's from going to the bottom of the earth. Plus expensive as well. Waste of money!
They shouldn't change anything in Brisbane. Should just let everyone show up and the people can watch the games from the bowls club.
This is 1BM's new worst video. But when you only make videos "for our American viewers" it makes sense why its so jarring, off topic (crocodiles, 40c? please), with TERRIBLE guest speakers and click bait headlines. Embaressing. Please Do better.
bro hates Australia
edit: Like, if the Olympics worked in Sydney and Melbourne, why can't it work in Brisbane?
Would there be a financial penalty for Queensland if they withdrew from hosting the Olympics?
Tell me you don't know shit about Brisbane without telling me you don't know shit. Like come on mate, you only go back to Sydney yet you fail to mention the Olympics before where at Atlanta (nothing against that city) but most international people don't know what that place has to offer.
1:00 no such thing as rainy season in Brisbane. We have all four of the regular seasons.
I’ve never been to Brisbane myself, but my sister has and she said it was a great place.😂
I do like these videos and am from Sydney, but this video has many inaccuracies. The Sydney Olympic Park is about 15km away from Sydney. Baseball/softball diamonds were at Blacktown, 30km away from the city. The mentioned Sydney Regatta Centre is at Penrith, over 50km out of the city. Equestrian was held at Horsley Park, again, about 40km away. None of the Sydney Olympic venues were actually in Sydney. Brizzie aren’t doing anything different for their games. The comparison is unjust – a rather biased and ill-informed one this time @TheB1M
