Greece’s summer festival season is set to unfold far beyond the country’s major cities, bringing music, cinema and cultural experiences to islands, mountains and remote communities. From classical music performances on Sifnos and Lesvos to concerts atop Mount Helmos and a unique celebration of the Greek diaspora on Kastellorizo, this year’s program highlights the growing diversity of the country’s cultural landscape.
Sifnos Opens Summer with Classical Music
The island of Sifnos will launch its summer cultural season with the 11th MuSifanto Classical Music Festival, taking place from June 29 to July 6.
This year’s edition is dedicated to the theme “Music for All” and coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Sifnos Music Workshop. The festival is held under the auspices of Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas.
The program features acclaimed ensembles including C2 Cello Duo, Duo Melis, D&A GuitarDuo and the Harris Lambrakis Quartet. Highlights include a recital by Danae Papamattheou-Matschke and Uwe Matschke, as well as a collaboration between the ACG Community Choir and local schools.
Alongside the concerts, visitors can participate in musical walks, view children’s art exhibitions and attend daily music masterclasses led by distinguished soloists.
Award-Winning Director Pawlikowski Heads to Sifnos
Sifnos will also host the sixth edition of the Bring Your Chair – Cozy Festival, running from July 26 to August 28.
The festival combines cinema, music and public discussion in historic locations across the island, aiming to connect contemporary culture with local identity.
A central event this year is the screening of the documentary La Quinta Stagione on August 23. Directed by Giuseppe Carrieri, the film explores women’s perspectives in contemporary gastronomy through the experiences of five Italian female chefs. Michelin-starred chef Cristina Bowerman, who appears in the documentary, will attend the screening and discuss the culinary connections between Greece and Italy.
On August 8, the festival will present Cold War by acclaimed Polish filmmaker Pawel Pawlikowski, one of Europe’s most celebrated contemporary directors. Fresh from the Cannes Film Festival, where he won Best Director for his new film Fatherland, the Oscar-winning director will travel to Sifnos for a special evening dedicated to his work. An open discussion with the audience will follow the screening.
Lesvos Festival Explores Aristotle’s Concept of Happiness
The 12th Molyvos International Music Festival will take place on the island of Lesvos from August 12 to 19, centered on the Aristotelian concept of “Eudaimonia” — often translated as human flourishing or true well-being.
Responding to the pressures of the digital age, this year’s program uses both classical and contemporary music to explore themes of inner balance and fulfilment.
Leading international soloists, including Simos Papanas and Pascal Schumacher, alongside Danae and Kyveli Dörken, will perform in landmark locations such as Ancient Antissa, Mytilene Castle and the Museum of Industrial Olive Oil Production.
The festival’s concluding concerts on August 19 will be structured around the themes of Wisdom, Temperance, Balance, Virtue and Courage. The program will also feature a world premiere commissioned by the festival from composer Christos Papageorgiou.
Aegina Marks 20 Years of Music
Celebrating two decades on Greece’s cultural calendar, the 20th Aegina Music Festival returns from August 3 to 22.

Under the artistic direction of Dora Bakopoulou and Elena Chounta, the festival will present nine concerts across several venues, including the courtyard of the Church of the Saviour, Molfesis Theatre in Pachiora and Avra Beach.
The program spans a wide range of musical styles, featuring vocal repertoire, guitar and piano recitals, a musical theatre evening and chamber music performances by international artists such as Minerva Duo, Lily Maisky and Lyda Argerich.

The festival concludes on August 22 with a tribute concert to Manos Hadjidakis, one of Greece’s most influential composers, featuring performances by Alkinoos Ioannidis and Elli Paspala.
Kastellorizo Celebrates the Greek Diaspora
At Greece’s easternmost frontier, the Near & Far Kastellorizo International Festival returns for its second edition from June 25 to 28 under the title Echoing Roots Across the Seas.
The four-day multidisciplinary festival is unique in being entirely dedicated to the Greek diaspora, bringing together Greek artists from around the world and connecting them with Greece’s contemporary cultural scene.
Inspired by composer Pericles Kanaris, the event is co-organized by Manolia Arts and the Municipality of Megisti under the auspices of the Ministries of Culture and Foreign Affairs.
Following record attendance last year, organizers have expanded the program and, for the first time, plan to livestream events globally, strengthening ties with Greek communities abroad.
Music Reaches New Heights on Mount Helmos
The fourth Helmos Mountain Festival will take place from June 19 to 22, introducing a third music stage at the summit of Styga, 2,340 metres above sea level.
At this high-altitude venue, Giannis Aggelakas and Nikos Veliotis will present their project Lykoi Live (“Wolves Live”).
The main stage will feature leading Greek artists including Giannis Haroulis, Alkinoos Ioannidis, Miltos Paschalidis and Pyx Lax. Electronic music performances by Valeron, Klangphonics and Korolova will close each evening.
The Alpine Stage will host Skiadareses, Nefeli Fasouli, Dimitris Mystakidis and Chatzifragketa.
Beyond the music, the festival includes morning mountain activities and concludes on June 22 with a traditional Greek celebration in the central square of Kalavryta.
Pozar Springs Festival Blends Hip-Hop and Songwriting Traditions
Set against the dramatic landscape of the Pozar thermal springs near Edessa, the 14+2 Festival returns from July 16 to 19.
The four-day event combines performances on its main stage with DJ sets on a secondary stage.
Opening night is dedicated to Greece’s hip-hop scene, featuring Taf Lathos, 12os Pithikos, Ethismos and Logos Timis.
On July 17, audiences will hear Chrysiida Gkagkouti, Pavlos Pavlidis and Giannis Haroulis. The following evening will bring performances by Panos Vlachos, Miltos Paschalidis and Ioulia Karapataki.
The festival closes on July 19 with Koinoi Thnitoi, Pyx Lax and veteran singer-songwriter Vasilis Papakonstantinou.
Together, these festivals illustrate how Greece’s cultural life extends far beyond its major urban centers. Across islands, mountains and remote border communities, music, film and artistic dialogue continue to create new connections between local traditions and international audiences.
