US Ambassador to Athens Kimberly Guilfoyle said President Donald Trump plans to visit Greece in 2026, with the trip potentially taking place before the NATO Summit in Turkey.
Guilfoyle made the comments during a visit to the headquarters of Greece’s national public broadcaster ERT on Mesogeion Avenue in Athens. Speaking to journalists, she said Trump expects to travel to Greece before the end of the year.
Hegseth and Rubio also expected
Guilfoyle added that Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Secretary of State Marco Rubio also plan to visit Greece, without giving further details on the timing of their trips.
Their potential visits would bring several senior US officials to Greece in 2026 and point to increased diplomatic and defense activity between Athens and Washington.
The possible Trump visit would also carry symbolic weight, as 2026 marks the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence.
Greek government sources, however, said no visit has received formal confirmation so far.
Guilfoyle’s earlier remarks pointed to Trump’s visit to Greece
Guilfoyle had also referred to Trump’s expected visit in separate remarks shortly before the premiere of a documentary centered on Melania Trump.
“I hope she comes. I know the President is coming, and I am truly looking forward to both of them visiting Greece. It will be an incredible honor for the country,” Guilfoyle said.
Her comments also suggested that Melania Trump could travel to Greece, although officials have not announced a schedule.
