EVANSTON, IL – The Greek Women’s University Club (GWUC) sponsored its 36th National Music Competition on April 25 at the Alice Millar Chapel at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
Five talented finalists performed for the judges and guests. The Charles C. and Phyllis Condes Memorial Award was presented to pianist Maria Drakontou.
The Sam C. and Helen Condes Award went to mezzo-soprano Georgia Evangelina Jacobson.
The Constantine and Harikleia Condes Award to soprano Lisa Buhelos.
The James T. Kanellos Award to baritone Nikos Anthimides Warren.
The Barbara Landis-Seid Award to violinist Stella Feliberti.
Chairperson for the event was Anna Kanellos Moreno. Judges for the competition were Donna Sadlicki and Barbara Landis-Seid.
The organization’s officers are President Georgia Nikolopoulos, Vice President Joanne Chamis, Secretary Harriette Condes-Zervakis, and Historian Dr. Maria Stewart.
“It is a privilege and an honor to congratulate these amazingly talented young people,” the GWUC said in a statement wishing them continued success as they pursue their goals.
A reception was held at Northwestern University following the performances.
Established in 1931, the GWUC is dedicated advancing education, promoting the arts, literature, and sciences, and preserving Hellenic history and culture, and to recognize excellence and encourage the achievements of young women and men of Greek descent.
