Un Triomphe (France, 2020)

Directed by Emmanuel Courcol, this French production was an official selection at Cannes Film Festival in 2020 and won the Best European Comedy Award by the European Film Academy. Etienne, runs a theatre workshop in a prison, where he brings together an unlikely troupe of prisoners to stage Samuel Beckett’s play Waiting for Godot. When he is allowed to take the colourful band of convicts on tour, Etienne finally has the chance to thrive. This profoundly humane and heartfelt comedy, inspired by true events, features Cesar-winning actor Kad Merad. In French with Greek and English subtitles. €8

There, she will share her thoughts and burdens with Antonis, a man she randomly meets on board. Stantar Kkomety Festival

Stantar Kkomety returns for the second consecutive year with a three-day comedy festival, filling the Heroes’ Square and Rialto Theatre with laughter and entertainment. Following last year’s first successful festival, this 2nd edition brings to the stage upgraded shows featuring internationally renowned English-speaking comedians. At the same time, the festival preserves its traditional character by presenting an array of shows by Cypriot talented stand-up comics. Stand-up comedy in English, comedy for kids comedy battles, raw comedy, music, and food will bring a fresh perspective and guarantee an entertaining experience (see detailed programme).

Another Country by Julian Mitchell is a theatrical play that won the Society of West End Theatre Awards ‘Play of the Year’ title in 1982. Directed and translated by Andreas Araouzos, the play features ten Cypriot artists introducing the audience to a 1930s English private boarding school exploring the camaraderie and operation of the educational system through a staged reading. Two singers at the height of their powers—soprano Nadine Sierra and tenor Benjamin Bernheim—come together as the star-crossed lovers in Gounod’s Shakespeare adaptation, with Yannick Nézet-Séguin on the podium to conduct one of the repertoire’s most romantic scores. 3rd Cyprus Choreography Showcase (SXK)

The Department of Contemporary Culture of the Deputy Ministry of Culture of Cyprus, in collaboration with the Rialto Theatre, organises the 3rd Cyprus Choreography Showcase 2024. An institutional event that aims at presenting selected choreographic pieces, conceived and created in Cyprus over the past two years. Specifically, the SXK offers an opportunity to Cyprus-based choreographers to show their works, to artistic directors and international contemporary dance festival representatives who are invited for this purpose.
