Taste of New Orleans at racetrack

The Taste of New Orleans Food & Music Festival will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Del Mar Racetrack’s Seaside Cabana, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd. Highlights include Cajun cuisine, frozen daiquiris and local beers along with live Cajun music, a mini parade, bead vendors and the Red Hatter. Speakers to discuss ‘Climate Justice and Climate Action’ at CV Democratic Club meeting

The August Monthly meeting of the Carmel Valley Democratic Club will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 26 at the Carmel Valley Library to discuss Climate Justice and Climate Action.Members will be joined by club member Chris Roberts, a volunteer for SanDiego350, an environmental activist group, and co-lead of the Transportation Team. He and other SD350 members, plus members of Youth v. Summer Movies in the Park at San Dieguito

San Diego’s Summer Movies in the Park series will screen “How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World” at San Dieguito County Park on Friday, Aug. 23 at 7 p.m. Bring a picnic and your favorite movie snacks—an ice cream truck will be available selling treats. Chairs and blankets are encouraged. The park is located at 1628 Lomas Santa Fe Drive. Parking in the Highland Drive parking area is a $3 fee.

One Paseo Summer Moonlight Cinema

One Paseo’s Moonlight Cinema Series will screen “Kung Fu Panda” under the stars on Saturday, Aug. 24. Salsa night in Pacific Highlands Ranch

Taste of Encinitas

The Encinitas 101 MainStreet Association will hold the 35th Annual Taste of Encinitas on Tuesday, Aug. 27, from 5:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., along Coast Hwy 101 in downtown Encinitas. With the purchase of a ticket, participants will be able to enjoy tastes from a number of local restaurants, sample wine and beer at Sip Stops, and enjoy a variety of live music. Free Moonlight Beach Concert features The Beat Farmers

The free Moonlight Beach Concert series in Encinitas features a performance by The Beat Farmers from 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 25 at 400 B St., Encinitas. The opening act is Shred or Alive, an Encinitas band that won third place in the Leucadia 101 Battle of the Bands, from 12:45 to 1:15 p.m. Trueblood, an Encinitas band of four brothers who were winners of the Leucadia 101 Battle of the Bands, will perform from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m. Visit encinitasca.gov.

Cardiff Greek Festival

The 44th annual Cardiff Greek Festival will be held on Sept. 7 and 8 at the golden-domed Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Cardiff. Celebrate with live Greek music and dancing, folk dancing performances, delicious Greek foods and treats like a baklava sundae, Greek pastries and kafenio (coffee), a marketplace full of vendors and a kid’s fun zone. Voices for Children to host ‘Starry Starry Night’ at The Rady Shell

Voices for Children (VFC), along with Honorary Chairs, The Sullivan Family: Katie and Dan Sullivan, Sarah Houghton, Megan Delgado, and Lindsay Estrada, will host a spectacular evening under the stars to support children living in San Diego County foster care and the life-changing advocacy of Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers. SOF Support Foundation Golf Tournament and Dinner-Gala

The SOF (Special Operations Forces) Support Foundation Golf Tournament and Dinner-Gala, which has raised millions over the years for programs that support American special operators and their families, is returning to the Del Mar Country Club on Saturday, Oct. 5. Retired four-star general, former commander of U.S. and International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF) Afghanistan and the former commander of the nation’s premier military counter-terrorism force, Joint Special Opera­tions Command (JSOC), Stanley McChrystal will serve as the event’s keynote speaker. Joining McChrystal as featured speakers are Combat-wounded Marine Staff Sergeant (Ret.) and FOX News correspondent Johnny “Joey” Jones, along with military wife and widow Ginger Gilbert Ravella. Animal shelter cuts adoption fees in half

The San Diego Humane Society offers a 50 percent discount on adoption fees through Sept. 10 as part of Clear the Shelters Month, sponsored by NBC Universal and Telemundo. On Sept. 7, Clear the Shelters Day, adoption fees will be waived entirely. The nonprofit shelter is caring for more than 2,000 animals and over 800 of them are ready to be adopted, including many puppies and kittens. The Humane Society is open for walk-in adoptions Tuesdays through Sundays at its campuses in Escondido, El Cajon, Oceanside and San Diego. Golf tournament benefits community members with disabilities

The San Diego Foundation runs its 31st annual Charity Golf Tournament to benefit children and adults with disabilities Sept. 9 at La Valle Coastal Club and Resort, 5690 Cancha de Golf. Pacific Coast Harmony to host Special Guest Night
