Welcome Back to Episode 49 of All Things Greek, a series where I share recipes from my childhood! Today we are making beloved Keftedes. Or Keftedakia… otherwise known as THE BEST GREEK MEATBALLS!
Meatballs are called keftedes in Greece and are a staple in my house for a quick, easy, and healthy dinner. Greek meatballs vary by region and family, but this is how I love to make my Keftedes which I learned from only the best — my Greek mama and grandmother.
Next time your household is having one of those nights where you’re not sure what you eat/make, maybe you don’t have enough time or the kids can’t make up their minds because they’re having a “picky” moment — try these. They are the answer to every problem. Paired with our Tzatziki you will be left craving more and wondering why you’ve never tried our easy, quick, one-bowl Greek Meatballs before!
Here’s everything you need to become a Greek Meatball Wizard and never panic when you have only 15 minutes to make a quick protein-packed snack or dinner again!
Ingredients:
450 g (1 lb) lean ground beef
1 large yellow onion, grated
2 garlic cloves, minced
2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 egg
6 tbsp fresh chopped mint
1/2 cup breadcrumbs
1 lemon, cut into wedges
olive oil for cooking
tzatziki for serving (use our tzatziki recipe!)
Instructions:
1. Mix ground beef, grated onion, minced garlic, salt, pepper, egg, chopped mint and breadcrumbs. Once combined, form into meatballs using about 1 heaping tablespoon per meatball.
2. Coat the bottom of a frying pan with olive oil and turn to medium heat.
3. Fry the meatballs in batches, stirring everything a few minutes until the meatballs are cooked through, about 10-12 minutes.
4. Serve with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice and our best-ever tzatziki.
Notes:
1. Serve this recipe as an appetizer for 4 people, about 6 meatballs per person.
2. Or, serve as a main dish with side dishes like:
* Maroulosalata aka my Mamas Salad
* Homemade Greek Salad
* Fluffy Greek Pita Bread Recipe
* Greek Cabbage Salad

Was looking for an actual recipe, not a video just to watch you make what I want. Doesn't help me much, but thank you anyway.
