DO NOT allow the coaches to convince you to play up. You will no longer see their unhindered creativity and confidence. He will 100% be able to keep up with the next age no question, but he will learn that many of his skill moves no longer work and he will play much more safe. And so although he will learn to play much more physical and get exposed to higher intensity, you wont get to see the full spark of what they had if you kept them at their age. Instead be open to have him help or guest play if they are short players, dual roster is also an option, but make sure his main team is his age group.
I see this at every time, selfish kids dribbling around for glory, not passing the ball. Academies want team players with skills, not jugglers.
