“Mykonos, I think you have a problem,” says 63-year-old solo traveler, writer, and vlogger Christina Ford in a video.
Christina Ford recently visited the island of the winds for a vacation. However, as she states in a video uploaded to social media, she doesn’t want to return.
Christina, who lives permanently in London, shares her story in a TikTok video, telling her followers, “This is crazy. Mykonos, I don’t know what the hell is going on with you.”
The vlogger describes her experience with the hotel bill upon checkout, which included the room cost plus taxes, government taxes, the price of the food she ordered by the pool plus taxes, and tips.

Mykonos: They Expected Me to Pay a Tip That I Had Already Given
“I put my credit card down to pay, and two people are hovering over me. I say, ‘What is this?’ They say, ‘Oh, to leave a tip,” the 63-year-old traveler explains.
“This tipping service, this culture is getting out of control. Has anyone ever been asked to tip on the cost of the room and tip for services they’ve already tipped for? Mykonos, you’ve lost the plot,” the vlogger adds, visibly indignant.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Christina Ford said she stayed at the hotel for three nights, with a room rate of around 700 euros. Although she liked the hotel very much, she says she was “incredibly shocked” by the tip request and did not pay it. “I also believe that if I were Greek and not Canadian – often mistaken for American – they wouldn’t have asked me,” she adds.
“They asked me for a minimum spend of 100 euros at a bar”
In another TikTok video, Christina warns people traveling alone to avoid the Greek island due to the negative experiences she had at several bars.
She explains that as she was on her way to meet friends, she wanted to have a drink. However, at the first bar she went to, which she says was about half full, she was asked for a minimum spend of 100 euros.
At a second bar, which was nearly empty, she was told that a reservation was required and asked if she was alone before being “turned away.”
“Mykonos, in its obvious desperation to make money, is discriminating, I believe, against people traveling alone. They were not willing to seat one person at a table for two, even though the place was empty.”
Christina has now blacklisted Mykonos.
“What originally made the island popular has gradually been replaced with inflated prices. I can afford to pay for excellent food and service, but no one likes to be ripped off or taken advantage of, regardless of their budget,” she notes.
The well-known vlogger even suggests to her online friends to visit other Greek islands like Hydra.
“Hydra was wonderful. No cars, you walk everywhere, and they greet you with joy,” she says.
